Thanks for the tip, Koreets. In the first picture, blocks look varnished. Once I tried using CA on varnished surface and reaction occurred, looked like white spots. I assume you glue the ropes and when CA is dry, apply varnish. Sorry for bothering you with my silly questions, but I'm in the process of rigging carronades, and any advice from experts is more than appreciated. Thanks again.

I varnish/tone the blocks after assembly, when the ropes are glued.
