1/12 scale Alfa Romeo 8c 2300 roadster build log [COMPLETED BUILD]

Ok, so I decided that I didn't like the windscreen I made after all. I kept the kit's proportions but they're not like the ref car. Also, it was too vertical. So I modified these 2 features and know I like it. I also removed the sticker, it was too blurry. I'll have to find another place to print them. It's a good thing it only cost me 5$.

I'm up to what seem's to be the last portion to modify/built, the fenders. I tried my hand at them at the begining of the projet but failed miserably. This is what I'm trying to do (the rivet plate).Alfa-Romeo-8C-2300-Monza-1932-asta-64-768x576.jpg

Here are my first and second try, the plates were to big20230103_164954.jpg20230104_141808.jpg

My latest try, I'm trying different plate sizes with a smaller rolled edge. The jury is still out.20230420_204630.jpg

Wow Peter, nicely detailed. How big is the instruction manual? I guess you color printed a scaled down real cover?
Hi François. I think the manual was 5mm. I can’t measure it, because I sold the crane …….. Yes it was scaled down from a original one. Printed on a high-res-printer at work ;).
Regards, Peter

Take 2 on the windscreen stickers, l got a better quality impression this time. I also reduced the height of the center rear view miroir post, it was to high.

Yes, François, you made it! Of course you see the dots on the unforgivable macro shots. But at a normal viewing distance this look nice. A stimulus for the rest of the stickering.

Well, this build is almost over. I did the fenders with the rivet plates and lock wires. Still have a few loose ends to tigh up like the steering wheel, the wheel knockoffs and a bit more weathering. I'm still waiting for the custom decals but I don't think l'll get them before summer. In the meantime, here are some shots of the fenders plus a few more of the almost finished car.

The lockwire bolts were to small to pass the wire thru, I had to improvise a bit.20230426_161802.jpg20230426_161828.jpg20230426_162018.jpg

The fabrication and assembly portion of this build are finished. While wanting for the decals and a proper photo shoot, here it is on display.
I've really enjoyed this build and I hope you have to. Next one on the block will be the 1/12 Bentley blower but probably not before next fall.

Congratulations with this superb build, François. It looks very very nice with the matted red color.

I took pictures of what the finished kit should look like according to Italeri (taken from the instruction booklet). Here is a comparison of Italeri's take versus mine.20230501_140656.jpg20230501_140333.jpg

You might have noticed that I included the spare tire which would have been on the original car but is not present on my ref car. I find the design of the spare wheel support interesting with it's leather straps. I did modify it so it is removable. It's held in place with 2 small pins at the bottom and a magnet at the top.

I always like ‘comparison pictures’. You made some very nice ones, François. And the spare wheel is in line with your other detailed work.
Regards, Peter
