American Scout C-2 Cargo Ship by Sterling Models

During my career the City of San Antonio’s electric utility was a good customer and I made several trips there to meet with them. Their engineers told me that they were also responsible for the river of River Walk fame. Apparently the river is man made and they, the utility, periodically drain it. In addition to lots of restaurant chairs they find numerous engagement rings.

Now that’s just sad!

Here are some C-2 photos of the S.S Gulf Merchant my father scanned from old 35mm slides for you. My father is that young Midshipman laying on the bunk. You see that treble hook above him? He made that to catch squid.Suleski 065.jpg

These are awesome photos, Kurt! Tell your dad thank you very much for me.

is there an issue with the port side of the model as appears to be wavy not straight at amidships?

Yes. The sheers were difficult to put together because they were breaking. At this point, they are not flush with the bulkheads. I’ll be sanding them flush. That should help with the look.

run a sting line from the bow centerline to the center of the last current frame shown in the photo. mark the centers of all the tops of frames then measure from that center mark to each side of each frame to see if same distance or different.

That’s a great idea! The good news is it’s wood. Easy to fix. I honestly don’t know if I have the right bulkheads in the right places. Fore and aft bulkheads I can determine by shape. The rest are questionable. There’s no way to identify them. I’ll measure everything out and reinforce with scabs on the bulkheads before I’m done. That will also strengthen the framework.

Looks like your dad hooked a picture of Jayne Mansfield. I'd have gone with Marilyn Monroe.
