Video 7 - (Part 1)
It's about 10 months since I worked on the Victory (for many reasons) but I thought it was time to resume work on her.
Just a small update on what I did today. I know it's not much but it did take more time than I thought. I was tossing around the idea of not painting the lamps at all but decided to make the effort.
I approached the task a little differently than the video and use Sharpie Pens rather than paint and simplified the process somewhat by not making them as detailed as the video. I think they will be OK.

Hi Tony
Nice to see you back on the case
Can I urge you to go the extra mile with the lanterns, I too use sharpie markers and with the ultra fine tip ones it’s not that difficult to follow the raised detail on the lantern covers
If you look at Vicory’s lanterns they do have the 3 horizontal bands on the cages
Mine don’t all come out perfectly but the desired effect is good overall and you will be rewarded for your efforts
Another thing to consider if you don’t do it already, I test every led before and after glueing them into the lantern cases, these things are mass produced and although I haven’t found one yet it is possible to get a duff one, and you don’t want to discover that after it’s been installed in the ship

Yep I did test each light first. I'm happy with the painting it's the soldering I'm struggling with.

Do you have a fine tip on your soldering iron?

Yes, but it's a cheap USB one. Doesn't seem to get hot enough to melt the solder. May have to invest in a new one.

I didn’t know what you had but I was going to suggest getting a good quality iron as there is a lot of soldering to be done
Mine is digital and allows different tips to be inserted for various types of jobs

Video 7 - (Part 2)
Hi Everyone
FINALLY got the first set of lights done. Not the neatest job I've ever done but they work!
I'd just like to send a huge THANK YOU to AlanOES who provided a heap of help walking me through the wiring process


You will definately need to deepen the grooves. The scraping tool just does not go deep or wide enough.




The video will have you run wires around the top of the Shot Locker. I though this looked quite messy when painted. I know you don't see much of this but I thought I would hide the wires behind a sort of pelmet, much tidier.

Video 8 - (Part 1)
Time to assemble the various rooms at the stern of the Orlop Deck.


The video would have you attach the deck parts to a flat surface then cover with Cling Film. This all seemed a bit OTT to me so I simple scanned and printed out the deck parts and taped them to my cutting matt. Much easier.


Here I am checking that the printouts were true to size.


It's wise to number the parts.








To make the curved wall parts AL supply a clever jig to help. Which you need to assemble first.










You cut away the jig parts to leave the wall.


A paper template is supplied to form the wall.






A little sanding later.
