Pencil “lead” isn’t actually lead at all. The core is usually made from graphite, mixed with clay (and sometimes a bit of wax). The balance between graphite and clay is what determines how hard or soft the pencil is, and how light or dark it marks. You can buy the graphite powder in Art stores similar to this:using pencil dust (no idea how to call it) to get a metal finish.

Your metal work looks great, Dirk. But also the ochre yellow paintwork.Working on more details (to avoid doing the cap rail ... haha) ...
anchors, boat, steering wheel and pumps are 3D printed parts in different quality. anchors are nice, boat is ok (not finished yet), steering wheel .. mm I don't know (still needs some fixes), the pumps are square completely wrong crap (pumps not shown), I will need to scratch them. PE Parts of the kit are good, just to mention it.
Overall look at the moment. Channels are done.

Some more details aft, washer for the rope passage. I usually have lots of micro parts like washers, rivets, nuts and else in my stash to "pimp" details.

The one in the foreground looks more slender. The square Evergreen is just a little oversized.Progress is slow unfortunately. I did the Ore Storage Cages. I am not sure about the photo etch ones so I rebuild them with evergreen profiles. Very fragile. Still considering trying to do them in brass. Anyway, pictures

I like the blue tiki torches. An unexpected detail...I must admit I was surprised that you tend to prefer the kits photo-etched parts. I find the Evergreen rebuilded parts more suitable. Hmmmm. Since these parts do not have to be installed asap, I will take my time to make a decision
It was time to start working on the handrail. In my opinion, this is another area where the design of the kit could have been improved.

The handrail consists of three parts, but what I really cannot understand is the way these parts are divided. Why on earth are they not split at the positions of the stanchions? Instead, the breaks are placed in completely illogical, “empty” areas. This kind of separation makes no sense to me.

The bow section is even more puzzling. It fits very poorly and required a lot of patience. I had to make adjustments in very small steps, constantly test-fitting and correcting, until it finally sat more or less correctly.

Anyway the result up to now, the metal stanchions are missing though.
