Axel Thorsen 1810 in scale 1/72 build by Dubz Modelling World

Thank you for you comments and likes guys, very much appreciated!

So Party is over, Handrail done :-D

Unfortunately, it is very fragile and broke already in one place (I must mention again what a suboptimal design it is to place the joints NOT on the stanchions), and now there is a small bend visible.

I am quite happy with the small detail additions and the metal stanchions; I think they round off the picture nicely.

A lot happend, but a lot frustrating stuff too ...

Oar Brackets. Kits nails are way to oversized. I used Dry Dock nails.

And added some washers to raise it a bit.

Way to big the kits nail/bolt

Gunport lock Missing in the kit.

The damn ******** rudder hinges.

Unfortunately, this is a representative example of the issues with this kit. I do not want to speak too negatively about it, but I always find it very disappointing to see how a truly excellent kit could have been developed with just a little more effort, yet compromises were made in exactly these areas. In short, nothing fits on the rudder hinges – absolutely nothing. They appear to have been taken generically from somewhere and have no real connection to this ship. That is extremely frustrating. Furthermore, they cannot fundamentally fit perfectly because the stern has not been properly designed from a construction standpoint – please compare this with the last image.

Here it becomes clear that some shortcuts were taken during the build: the rudder was shortened, the hinges were simply attached rather than properly embedded, and the upper hinge runs along the stern in a strangely bent line. Oh and btw the metal tiller you can see here is another not fitting nightmare .. haha.

Anyway, next post will be more positive :-P

A very nice show-case with a beautiful base, Dirk. The outcome of your special kind of ‘kit-bashing’, needed to get decent metal-work, looks also very nice.
Regards, Peter

Thanks so much for your nice comments :-)

I made the metal tiller. There is a photo etch part in the kit I don't think is completely thought through. It should be folded and then ...?

Anyway I found a method that works for me. I folded at the other side direction, soldered the folded parts (green) and then soldered a brass strip (red) with the contour of the rudder head so that the parts fit the rudder head :-)
