Remember that as a salter the catch was cut into fillets laid flat like cordwood and slated in the hold. The rest was processed into oil and stuff that did to into the barrels so guessing how many to bring aboard when setting out was a good question. Here is a teaser that has an answer in the Chappelle book: where was the salt kept? Rich (PT-2)

Thank you. I painted it black first, then I did a series of washes with white, to let it flow in the letters. Once the white had enough coats, then I used some magnifying glasses and a 0000 paint brush to touch up the black around the letters.

Started working on the main, mast.
Glued on piece to make ball on upper mast…

Used ruler to determine when cut in the bottom of upper mast was deep enough to make parallel to the bottom mast…

Done with the wood working, next stain and paint…and add all of the hardware. Some hardware, like mast bands, will have to be made.

You are at the point of decision whether to bend on sails: furled or full and with mast hoops getting them on while able to slide them onto the masts. It looks like YQ simplified the mast assemblies so I don't know what the sequence will be for you in how you are going to present her. It will be a quality piece in any event coming from your hands and eyes. Rich

It is approaching time to make some decisions. I will be adding all the hardware, stain and paint very soon. I plan on adding the mast hoops afterwards, by making them split. So no early commitment required for sails.
However, before I get too far along I need to finish the permanent base and mount the ship.
And once my second order for supplies shows up at my door, I will work on the bow sprit…which is a busy piece! ;)

I never thought of split hoops but they would solve a lot of problems. Rich

Thank you Uwek. I agree on spending time with the little ones, it is very important. My granddaughter is always wanting to know what I am doing, and to be a part of it. She will be 4 years old soon, and I can't believe how fast she is growing up! We do art, music and other activities together, for her to learn. It isn't until she goes to bed, that I can actually get any work done on the ship....ha ha! ;)
