Bluenose Schooner 1921 - Model Shipways 1:64 by TexBilly

After I installed my railing, and while the Bowsprit fit up was still fresh on my mind, I built my Samson Post/Bowsprit Bitts. I added a brace behind the bitts/under the platform to strengthen and help square that joint (to say that end of the kit-provided "platform" is flimsy would be an understatement). I also began shaping the end of my Bowsprit, cut a tenon, and confirmed its fit into the post's mortise. Finally, a little black & white fun in the last pic. :)

Amazing how we let work and life get in the way of our REAL priorities! ROTF

I experimented with structure colors - at one point was close to a black cabin with white trim - and in the end settled on white and my "oak varnish" trim. I made the varnish a bit darker, toward the plan's "dark umber" while keeping some grain visible. Pretty pleased with it and some progress on deck. All structures are just floating for now and I need to add some details before securing them to the deck - the cabin door latch/hinges, vent pipe, compass housing to name three.

Been awhile since I've checked in, Bill! I am "watching" it but don't get the alerts. <shrug> Your Bluenose is looking great. I had so much fun building all these little deck accoutrements. Hope you are enjoying the build, as well. Love your look and the colors you are giving it. Great job.
