Build Log: ENDURANCE by OcCre [COMPLETED BUILD]

Hey Charlie, you said you used Weldbond on your second planking. Did you have to use any wood putty on your first planking? If so, how did the Weldbond do sticking to the putty?
Hey Kramer. Sorry for the delay.... If I remember correctly I didn't use filler on the first planking. If I need it, I use Bondo auto filler. I like Welbond because it dries clear. I had no problems with sticking the second layer. Thanks for the comment. Charlie

Hmmm, bondo. Good idea. Thanks, Charlie.

What a beautiful build. You did an amazing job. I am building one also. Just curious, how did you attach the lifeboat davits to the ship. Did you drill holes and just glue the metal davits into the wood holes. It seems kind of precarious. Without a screw or a lashing, the weight of the lifeboats over time would seem to put pressure on those attachment points. Any advice would be appreciated. Like what glue did you use for that.

I just used thick CA. Everything was ok until I shipped it to my son in California. one of the davits came loose but was easy for him to reattach. Hardest part of the build was finding dogs of the right scale.

Hej Charlie, novice builder here from Sweden, about to start the Endurance project. Thank you for your inspiring log!
..so.. where did you find the dogs (and penguins!)
thnx,
John

Hej John. know you’ll enjoy Endurance. Video on Youtube shows the wreck at 3000m. Cant remember where i got the dogs think it was England because the postage was more than the figures. Google animal figures.
Lycka till

this may be a day late and dollar short as the saying goes, but I am building this kit and this is definitely somewhere for me to go to for answers and suggestions.

It's been a while but as I remember it was a pretty straight build. My only suggestion would be to add a lot of extra details. I.E. dogs, animals, fire hoses, and life rings. I think that extra stuff makes the model come alive. Good luck.

Looking at your picture of the forward deadeyes that are attached to the top rail and then a rope goes down to a nail in the hull, is that a single rope that goes around the deadeye, is tied off with a small rope and then one end goes to the nail and tied off there?

I gave the ship to my son several years ago so i had to look at my photos to see what you mean. I think you are correct, a single line from deadeye to the nail on the hull. Send me a photo of what you have and i'll have a better idea of what you mean.

thanks for the response, after looking at your picture, I have decided that I will rig it as one rope, checking other resources I have do not show anything similar to that type of deadeye and its rigging, again thanks.

I like the pin rail around the mast, looks more like what you might see rather than the eyebolts, which I too have already drilled my holes in the deck and will consider doing it your way.

how did you attach the davits to the hull, did you drill into the hull, I don't see any other way to securely fasten them to the hull,
