This is the first ship I'm actually going to finish! There's been multiple attempts to start builds in the past. They never came to fruition. But now life has provided the time -

So here we go, I'm really excited about this ship. I read the story in Nat'l Geographic when I was a kid. After -The Endurance was forever instilled in my mind. It was exciting to see that somebody put out a model of this historic vessel.

That's it! picture uploads tomorrow!

I'm following you also with great interest. My build is 75% complete and it's been fun. I've been using photos from a couple of Endurance books and the OcCre video on YouTube to help with construction. Be happy to answer any questions you might have as you start your build.
Good luck
Charlie

Thanks everyone for the welcome and interest!

I just completed the hall frame a couple of days ago. I've been cutting decking and looking at glue options. I'll be doing some practice glue-ups using Hide glue, contact cement, veneer glue and Titebond 3. I'll do a post specifically for the comparison.

First thing I'll say about this kit is everything has fit well. All the plywood pieces were cut cleanly and were flat.

Hope this post finds everyone well!

Starting the decking today. I've spent some time researching other approaches to simulating decking details i.e. treenails vs no treenails, individual planks vs simulating plank runs.
The Occre instructions demonstrate single planks running the length of the deck with the treenails and individual planks drawn on with a pencil then sealed. I wanted to find an acceptable approach that would simulate individual planks with treenails and be within reason from a scale approach.

I'll post a pic from the instructions then some pics of my answer to decking application

Below is the approach I will be using..

I am very glad to see that you started this log Bill. This is a ship with a fascinating history and the Occre kit looks to be a very good one. I will be following as you go along.

Thank you Heinrich! And thank you Lou, I'm going to take my time with this build and pay special attention to detail.

I've been working on decking last couple of days. I have the bow deck completed. Now I need to trim the edges to shape then apply rub-on Polyurethane. For those interested in what type of glue I used I used Titebond III - it has a 30min setup time, but after 10mins I was able to readily handle the parts. Another glue I used is more for temporally applying pieces that would later be removed - I used Canopy Glue which dries clear, holds parts snug but with pressure is easy to separate the part from the work.

Here's a few pics of the deck, glue and poly I'm going to apply today;

That looks great Bill! Is that maple on the deck? Nice figure on those planks! I like using maple on decks….
