Build log for Muscongus Bay Lobster Smack by Don Ricardo

Been looking up super glue for gluing attachments to the Lobster Smack as I have seen some here mention using super glue. I always thought super glue was for non-porous materials and therefore not good for wood.
Is super glue ok for wooden boat models...if so what type and/of brand? and what consistency as there seems to be three differing viscosities of the stuff.

I think this you tube video from a master ship builder will answer many of your questions

Norwegian Pram has shipped from Florida, should be here by Saturday.
The second one planked much better than the first one, so this should be even better.
The Captain has been banned from the modelling area with her vacuum cleaner. I have been showing my son how bending is done and he might take a stab at building a wooden model and has already been told my stuff is off limits.
Of course when we went to Tennessee to see some of our children, he is the one who locked the cat in where my HMS Alert (paper and card model) and USS Constitution were, resulting in the destruction of both, so I keep a wary eye on him!

Norwegian

Arrived yesterday, not the Pram which I erroneously entered, but the Norwegian Smack, kit #951Apprentice level instead of MS1472 Shipwright Series.. I have the hull and deck done on MS1472, and have to sand off the Testors paint on that one, prior to finishing it. Right now with this storm approaching, I don't feel like sanding off paint, so I have started kit 951.
It seems much simpler.
The planking went much better.
The first smack was crushed, and I managed to repair the second Smack. Those were both MS1472, which I prefer.

This is the Lobster Smack I have left after dropping one on the stairs, anf this is the Apprentice Kit I received. I will finish the Apprentice kit for my niece (for her mantle), then try to finish the paint job on this Smack.

The stem, which broke at the stern on both attempts, is much more robust on the Apprentice kit. I am using Evergreen PVA glue on this one and on any and all future models. Went down to Hobby Lobby for some artist's tubes of acrylic paint to see how they work on model ships.

There is a YouTube channel called HillBilly Modeling, he is currently building this boat and has also built the Dory and Norwegian Sailing Pram in the beginners series from Model Expo. Although an experienced modeler, these are his first experiences with wood. I find it quite useful to watch ahead of my build (currently building the pram myself), it allows me to identify the problem areas he is encountering etc.

I have built the Dory and the Pram and this is my third try on the Smack, the first having snapped at the stern portion of the stem.I repaired that but could not get it to
line up properly, which caused planking problems. The second attempt snapped at the same spot, and that one I repaired and lined everything up properly. My brother-in-law wanted to see it so I brought it downstairs but dropped it on the way down and smashed it, stepping on it while trying to keep from falling.
The stem on this one is much more substantial, but there is a top and bottom solid hull piece, no planking. The hull pieces are much heavier, so I soaked them in boiling water and got them to fit almost perfectly.
I watched Hill Billy Modeling, thanks for that tip.
