Next is to install the beams that were veneered with walnut way back in step #1. This was actually easier than expected.
Also installed the reinforcements on the poop deck.

Right now I plan to do one of those "half-deck" things: There'll be no planking on one side of the main deck. I figure between that and the cargo hatches on the top and sides there'll be plenty of places to peek into the cargo hold.

I have never worked a large sailing ship or anything that floats that has more than one deck, so all the titles get me confused when describing them.

Finally got a chance to get back to work on the ship. Finished planking the bottom half of the hull.

So before I can plank the upper half of the hull I need to finish out the deck and other details. I wanted some contrasting colors, so the deck planks I made from cutting up maple veneer and aging it with varying strengths of vinegaroon.





I decided that I was going to leave an unplanked section rear of the cargo hold so you can see the horses....

Just an update. I finished installing the inner (ceiling) planks above the weather deck and the poop deck planks. When finished, you won't see much of these except a little through the doorways and hatches.











I also trimmed out the bottom of the bulkheads where they meet the deck so there's no gap.

Finished planking and sanding! Again, zero tapering required.
