Thank you! They are adorable at that age, and she talks my ear off...lol. :)

Looking ahead to rigging, mast and yard building... and I realize I do not have the round stock for the two large yards...sigh! It is not in my kit! Should I just go to the local hobby store and buy? Or should I contact Occre? Anyone have experience with their customer service? Thanks!

I imagine the look on your face in your avatar is the look you were making when you realized you were missing parts. LOL.

You are doing the Cazador a great justice with your craftsmanship Dean. Excellent work. I did this as my second model and thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep up the fabulous work

I added the railing to the other side. First I soak and bend, then paint the bottom and edges. Then glue on and finally paint the top after doing any sanding or blending.
Then I added the board at the stern that runs inline with the railing and at bottom of black.
Then I painted that board black.
And finally add the ornamentation on that side.
I have some boards to do inside the bulwarks, but may do rudder and tiller arm next.

I can see that by your persistence in things right you have been stimulated or is it emulated by your wife's 8,000 piece painting puzzle which was completed as your ship will also be with your approach and skills. Rich (PT-2_

Thank you, it’s my second ship too. Trying to learn from the great builders here on SOS.
I already learned to plank the deck with staggered boards, add nail holes, pencil edge for caulking, use different glue, do second hull plank in veneer, etc. So this build has been a good learning experience so far! Still have the rigging to get done.

I speak under correction, but I have read somewhere on the forum that Occre's customer service is good. They are a sponsor on SOS so I would try them as a first port-of-call.

Made a request for parts using online form. Was easy...so let’s see how long it takes...however I’m not in need of yards just yet...lol :)

Dean,
my kit had 4 square stock strips per mast that required glueing together, then rounding them off in a wood lathe.
.
@Brian077 ...
This kit calls for two 4mm dowels, cut at angle on one end and tapered on the other.
See pics...this yard uses items 209 and 210...
Then see pic with parts list for items 209 and 210...
All highlighted yard dowels are missing! I requested them sent to me. You reference kit number and part number and quantity. They made it easy with online form.

One problem with buying dowels, particularly from local hardware or hobby stores is that they are not truly round but have irregularities which we don't need in model builds of precision. Very nice woodwork 101. I love the smell of wood and detest the smell of fiberglass!!!! It is rewarding to see you work and realization that square rudders are very inefficient if not incorrect. Just an opinion of a former racing sailboat owner and skipper. Rich (PT-2)

Just wanted to mention something exciting. My dad scratch built a ship out of wood when I was little. I always wanted to build one after that. Many years later I built my first one. I showed him my second one (this ship) recently, and next thing I know he ordered the San Felipe (Mantua Panart) and already started it!
So he influenced me and now I influenced him. :)
He is retired and I’m so happy he will be doing ship models now.
I also gave him the link to Donnies build of that ship as a guide.
You are presenting a perfect example of how we depend upon our parents when young and then in their later life they may depend upon us. . . the circle of life now often passed by from the former centuries when multiple generations shared the same house; born, raised, lived, and died in the family unit. Congratulations to you. Rich (PT-2)
