Chaperon 1884 Stern Wheeler

The Chaperon is going on the shelf for a bit ( :DSummer company for several weeks:D)

But I had to give this part of the build just one more try (I've lost count on the Re-Do's for this part)

I think I've finally got it. Just a dry fit for the moment, I'm going to rework the the landing by the Pilot house before anything becomes permanent.

Good morning Jan. You deserve some of Ron’s redo coins…..was worth it tho. Cheers Grant

Question on glue.

The Chaperon has a lot of PE trim. I've managed to glue up some bits but they pop off easily. Super Glue, etc. is not my friend, because of allergies. Any suggestions???

Todays effort:

The rear structure pieces both Port and Starboard are set and glued in position. I've not "squared" the front part by the boiler or added the staircase. I want to work on the boiler and then add some bracing or beams to help support the boiler deck floor.

Hello. Enjoying your posts. I’m building the Chaperon as well. I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions if you’re up to it. Was wondering if you placed window panes (acetate) behind the doors, windows on the main deck and if you plan to do so on the other decks? If so will you black them out or leave them clear?

Hi, glad my log is helping with your build. I did place clear acetate behind all the windows and used model airplane canopy cement to bond it. I left them clear. I scrounged the acetate from various packages that the Admiral brought home. You'll find that you won't need much of the stuff to cover all the windows.

Thank you very much. I’ll probably be touching base from time to time. Your project is beautiful and your build is my bible. I’m not a newbee but this build is my most challenging so far. Best, Rick, Davidson NC

Oh Boy, Major BRRRR here. It was -12F/-24C @6:30AM when we got up this morning. I had to go to an early medical appointment and when I got home it was already -4F/-20C. Good excuse to hibernate in the shipyard.

Todays objective is to start the placement of the Bull Rails in the Main Deck.

Thinking about "how to do it"and considering big fumbly fingers and iffy eyesight, I stated with

A temporary backstop to keep the Bull Rail receptors (sockets) aligned with the stationaries (columns).:D(Technical jargon printed on the plans):D

Two done and many more to go.

Off to get another cup of Tea.

Wonderful work Jan on an uncommon subject matter.

MIG Ammo ultra glue is the answer to your photo etch issues.

It is water based and specifically designed for fixing photoetch. It can be thinned with tap water as it is gloopy in the bottle however you might be better using as is if gluing to an absorbent wood substrate as opposed to plastic

Indeed, it has been trying to get my attention every time I pass the bookcase it's docked on.

Today is colder than yesterday, so I have a great "excuse" to work in the shipyard.
