Charles Morgan Bark 1:64 POB - By Bill-R

After looking at several pictures of the stern, reviewing the plans and taking some measurements, I feel that the filler aft of the last bulkhead is not deep enough (forward to aft). I removed the filler and moved the back edge of the filler 3mm. The line furthest toward the stern in the picture is where the filler will now end. That will allow for a smoother bend of the planks and look more like pictures that I have seen. At least that's my theory.

Hello everyone,

I have gotten the port side planked. I don't think it turned out very good. I made a lot mistakes along the way. Most of my problems were trying to get the planks to lay flat and even while curving around the shape of the hull. I planked only the port side of the hull first, so that if I had problems on one side I would not mirror them on the starboard side. I still have a lot of finish sanding to do, but I will wait till I have both sides planked.

Bill looks good. In my experience it is not uncommon to have some unevenness with the plank surfaces. Sometimes the dimensions of the planks vary. As long as the bulkhead surfaces are flush, the planks should sit properly. I wouldn't be too concerned below the waterline, fill the gaps and sand smooth, it will be hidden by copper plating.

Hi Quint,
Thanks for the reply and encouragement. I agree, the copper plating will cover a good amount of the hull and the remainder of the hull is painted black. A good amount of filling and sanding should take care of the concerns.
