Following your progress planking over the filler blocks is very encouraging. I'm at the same stage on my clipper ship hull. Just about to do the filling and sanding. Yours looks pretty darn good. So there's hope!

Next up was the cutting out of the gun ports. This was a nerve wrecking undertaking







I hope to most more pictures soon, but I'm rather busy with remodeling my second floor of my home and therefore do not have much time to post and/or work on the ship.

Your “cutting” out of the gun ports is a remarkable feat. Nicely done.

Very good work, Maik. Your hull looks really neat while you have done an admirable job on cutting out the gunports. I know just how tricky that is doing it with oak wood.

There was a fire at the Lelystad shipyard a number of years ago, but only the buildings were affected. The ship survived.

Hi all,

It's been a while, but I am busy preparing the house for my first child therefor I hadn't had much time to work on the ship.

Following a previous discussion I am now debating if I am going to place nails on the hull. I made an example of how it will look like:





What do you all think?

I think with the sporadic black grain-fill, which I like the look of, that tree-nailing would end up looking a little busy.

I tend to agree. I feel the same about treenails and copper-plating nails below about a quarter inch scale anyway. Too busy for my taste. But it's a personal choice.

Maik, i would stick to the black-grain fill, like the others, i think it is getting rather busy, and distracting.
But that is a matter of taste. do it as you think you want to see it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I did find some time to work on the ship again. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures and kinda go carried away and finished deck A after placing the guns. I decided not to place the nails on the hull.















Hopefully for the future I will remember to take pictures

Hi all,

A small update today. I started with deck B where I placed all the planks and the started with the grating. After finishing most of deck B, I drilled holes to simulate the nails and filled them with black wood filler in the same manner as before. Following a lot of sanding which is still ongoing.
