"Flying Cloud " by Mamoli - kit bash

Itty bitty at 1/96. I feel your pain....my portico for Staghound is only 1" square. You're doing a great job...keep it up. I chose black for my window treatments...its daylight outside and its dark in the inner spaces. Your color choice is happy and reflective....as you put it.

Rob
Rob, after seeing your Staghound main cabin today I am humbled by the remarkable detail and precision at scale with which you achieved your results. You set a high bar, which make your compliments all that much more appreciated. Thanks. Your cabin is exceptionally believable and evidence of the kind of work possible and truly aspirational for me. I wish I had seen it a few days ago.;)

Thanks to Rob, BMT, Chuck "the Gavel", Jimski, Uwe, jek, et.al., for all the kind encouragement. :D
Not a jot less than you deserve, my friend! You've paid it forward and then some. I love your commitment to the artistic process and craftsmanship which produces the elegant solutions you've shown us in your log. Thank you, Pete!

I built the Booby-Hatch. I recorded the process. Maybe TMI but gives a pretty comprehensive how to.
I removed the oversize capstans and pulled from my stash that are to scale and fit nicely enough to allow room for the tiny wee sailors to operate them. all the white metal parts not glued in place.20240819_122959.jpg20240819_145959.jpg20240819_145509.jpg20240819_150432.jpg20240819_123209.jpg20240819_152352.jpg20240820_163309.jpg20240822_123944.jpg20240822_151710.jpg20240822_153446.jpg20240822_150318.jpg20240819_152522.jpg20240822_155938.jpg20240823_105054.jpg20240823_105101.jpg20240823_105144.jpg

None of the deck furniture is permanently attached (and still requires some more detail)
And, oh yeah, why can't the booby-hatch be mounted with the entry on one side for easier access? It was removable anyway. I still have to mount the rings and eyebolts for lifting and tie-down.

Thanks, Rob. I very much appreciate the encouragement. It's all a little more cramped than I would like. Given the Mamoli pre-drilled deck, I'm afraid that's what I have to work with (or around). I hope that, if nothing else, my experience with this kit will demonstrate how much research, investigation and bashing is required to realize even a reasonable facsimile of the ship it is supposed to represent.

Hi Peter,
Your work and persistence is paying off with great results. It gives me encouragement to keep moving forward with my plans.

Bill
Thank you for your compliments. As I have indicated of late, I am kind of hamstrung by the decisions I have made earlier in my build before Rob and especially Rich's subsequent revelations. You and William M. have the advantage of garnering these revelations early in the game. I council patience until all relevent information has been gathered and made available. I can't tell you how glad I am that my work is providing inspiration for you. Thumbsup ;)

Peter,
Thanks for sharing your Flying Cloud build progress, she's proceeding very nicely. When done, I'm sure you'll have an heirloom for the ages.
I just love seeing your beautifully sleek hull. I don't know if you can see it but if you look at the famous Currier lithograph, your prow is very reminiscent of that print.

Hello Peter,
Your deck furnishings are looking great.

Bill
Thanks, Bill. With all the research and background work going on between this log, Clippership Build Thoughts and Staghound, you (and Bill M.) should have a pretty good foundation to launch your own "Flying Cloud" builds from, without all the start-stop-and re-do hassle of this effort. That and with the impetus your own creativity and originality should make for a pretty pleasurable build experience, with lots of room for originality. I look forward to looking on! Thumbsup
