french 64-gunner LE FLEURON in scale 1:48 by Joachim

The large decoration at the bottom of the stern on the port side is now also attached and shows now the whole ensemble. 4 days of work. It is challenging to let the foliage appear somewhat three-dimensional. To do this, I exposed the entire foliage with branches from the ground. Then I carve individual leaves a little deeper so that different levels arise between the leaves. And suddenly the branches are alive

Now I'm building the stern light. The base and lantern roof are made of boxwood. I turned the base on the lathe. I carved and then sanded the lantern roof. I worked on the roof for three days. The middle part with the window glass is made of brass: a brass disc at the bottom and an octagon made of 8 soldered brass rods at the top. Disc and octagon are connected with 8 soldered brass rods, approx. 6 hours of work for 16 soldering points. It was difficult that the thin rod stays in position during soldering and that other soldering points come loose again due to the heat. Now there are some more even thinner bars and rungs made of brass to build. But the shape is there. Either I leave the brass part in the brass color or I paint it anthracite. I don't want to burnish, because I'll attach the thinner rungs with superglue and the glue may not be able to withstand that.

The stern lantern now also has a small dolphin on the roof, so the stern carvings are completed. Now I'm going to get to the lashing of the cannons from the first cannon deck. Maybe this deck will be ready this year.

Do not burn the match (your candle) - it can only once light......
Your work on the light is very good - how did you make the glass of the latern?

Plexiglass, bought on Amazon. Can be sawed very well with a scroll saw without splintering. Has a protective film on both sides, which I only remove after sawing. For the lantern I sawed out 16 small plates to show the shape of the lantern and then glued them inside.

Tip from me: always leave the protective film on when sawing, the cut behind it sticks together again due to the heat of the saw blade
