Yes richie both of them being galleons of their times. I was thinking they were different scales too but they are both the same scale at 1:85th scale but I was thinking of the Felipe being 1:60th scale
Now she is completely planked with the first layer. That was the goal today was to get this phase done. Still have to finish cutting out for the gun ports and do some trimming and then sanding her smooth to accept the second layer of planks.

Kevels they are the cleats for sheets an tacks in that period. Usually with more of a horn on the tops.
I'm planning on making some from scratch like the second photo
The hull looks wonderful! It's truly amazing what a stark improvement sanding that first, rough planking job can make. I know you can't wait to see the smooth curves after the second planking!
Working on it now as we speak
Started getting some planking in on the second layer. You will see there at the bow how I had to do over lapping joints. These thinner planks didnt want to bend at all so when it gives you lemons add some vodka to and spice that shit up.

Planking is a true challenge to one's patience... but wait.. there's rat-lining! I actually like final planking, except for the careful brain numbing calculating of tapering and matching drop planks from port to starboard. You can see a real improvement in the hull's appearance. Your hull is coming along beautifully.

I only covered half of the gun port. I working my way up and then once I get ready to work my way down that's when I cut out the half that's covered
Well finally got the hull planked. I'll do the stern whenever I get up later today. Sanded with 600 grit any gaps are filled with color matching putty. I'll let her sit and hit it again with 600 grit then steel wool then a coat of Danish oil.
