Grants Xebec 1:60 (using Jabeque Cazador Occre1:60 kit) [COMPLETED BUILD]

I was wondering what had happened to you. I trust that the Husky was well behaved and a trusty steed along the way! It sure sounds like you had a blast and to top it all, a Ferrari win on Sunday night!

PS: Don't tell the others, but I actually rooted for Sainz! I bet Maranello's was buzzing!
Good evening Heinrich. Besides running out of rear tread and having to behave on the last 2days she was perfect. Man it would have been good to watch at Maranellos but I was pretty moeg on my return. Yep I was very happy with the F1 and Rugby results.Cheers Grant

Sounds like you had a great adventure on your bike trek. Alas, now it’s back to the little adventure. BTW you new set of oars look great.

Jan
Good afternoon Jan. It was a special trip for sure. Thanks, it’s now back to making more cannonso_O. They take a while and I’m thinking of jumping into some other part for a while. Cheers Grant

Good morning Guys. I’ve been away riding in the beautiful Karoo, Eastern Cape mountains and forests of the Garden Route. A never to forget adventure was had. 3000kms , 2500 on dirt and trails - it’s times like these that I love living in SA. Pulling/pushing bikes through swollen rivers (it took us 2hrs to cross the Baviaanskloof River),unintentionally taking down a male Gemsbok (lucky riders and buck all ok), saw so much game Kudu, Rhino, Gemsbok, even a leopard,Getting to top of passes closed due to floods damage etc etc. We were pretty “stuffed” each day. It was a legendary trip.
You make my day ……. and jealous :)
For me perhaps in 2024 a MTB adventure in Kyrgizia. :p
Regards, Peter

Now that sounds like an awesome trip Peter. I assuming that is a region of Kyrgyzstan…stunning topography and mountains there, so I’ve heard .(never been there.) …now you make me jealous ;) . Cheers Grant

Good evening
Grant doing his own thing….. From the start when I redesigned the hull shape and stern length of the Cazador besides attempting a more “sexy” look I created space to include the aft facing cannons. It didn’t make sense to have the stern cannon ports and no cannons.

These are in the “stowed” position similar to the picture below :

My stern carriages are slightly bigger than the 8 pounders on the main deck and hold a slightly larger cannon. I bought these cannon barrels from a local hobby store. I used the long falls of the inhaul tackle to secure the rear of the cannon to the carriage. The breech line and outhaul tackle is secured with a 0.4mm line as in the diagram above.

As with all my cannons no block strops or hooks are used….

Nice rigging, Grant. The deck is coming alive.
Regards, Peter

Grant, great idea to place two cannons at the stern. For a moment I had the same idea but didn't worked it out. After seeing your pictures perhaps I should have done it. However, it's looking great and thank you for showing the result! :) Thumbs-Up

Good morning Gentlemen:
Looks fantastic Grant. Great attention to detail.
Thank you Jay
Gee your work is amazing! I look at yours then look at my ship and cry myself to sleep lol
ROTF . Thank you Greg. I share your pain when I look at other guys ships on this forum. My motto as long as I’m smiling in my shipyard….:D

Thank you Peter. Yes that “tennis court” deck as Johan put it is starting to get busy. I have one more piece of furniture to make and she is done. Well I did make it but it went into the trashRedface.

Thank you Peter. I saw a Xebec (can’t remember where) which had these cannons and I just had too:D.I knew I had to extend the deck of the Cazador kit to make them fit. I do wish I had some hooks small enough for the cannons tho and I did attempt to make some but could not get them to scale. Still my “cheat” rigging came out ok. Cheers Grant
This is a great result Grant! Detailed and unique in all regards.
I surely would not want to be standing on the helipad, however, when those guys were in use!
True story PaulROTF. It so funny, I had a bet on wether you, Uwek (@Uwek) or Johan (@RDN1954 )would pick up the fact that my cannon would blast a hole in the “helipad” ROTF. My problem was I made the ports too high on the transom. Happens when you have no plan or reference when scratch build certain aspects ROTF…comes back to bite you on the bum at some point. For Grants Xebec in his pub I am very happy how my deck is coming out tho. Two aspects which I won’t do again tho : 1. Never use brass again. Don’t care the cost, brass black is a must and 2 : getting hooks at scale for the cannons. My “cheat” rigging while looks ok just needs to be better. Again looks good for Grants Xebec in his pub tho:D. Cheers Grant
Those cannons are a great addition. Nicely done.
Thank you kindly Jan
I love the stern teeth, Grant. I also went to great lengths equipping the WB2 with its two stern cannons and I think this is an aspect which is often overlooked by model builders.
Thank you Heinrich. Yep I’m with you. They look cool from a visual point of view.
Great canon rigging, Grant, and identifying the type of carriages. It definitely adds to the entire appearance.
Thanks Jim. I am happy with my overall appearance of these canons. As mentioned to Paul and Peter it would have been nice to include hooks and block strops but I couldn’t make them small enough.

Cheers Grant

Superbe rigged guns. Much improved from your Victory. When you put drowing of french gun and and your model, it seems to mee hooks could be possible in this scale, but it's better to show not tell, so I think I'll try that on my model. Cheers
