Grants Xebec 1:60 (using Jabeque Cazador Occre1:60 kit) [COMPLETED BUILD]

Grant, that's great work on your dinghy. When I built these on my Essex I was very worried about crushing it as they are so small and fragile.
What I also noticed with Peter's build is that you have placed the large rudders on the deck, is there a particular reason for this? I ask out of curiosity because in the monograph of Le Requin they are placed on the outside. Maybe I missed something in your and Peter's log and I would appreciate your thoughts.

Outstanding job Grant, those little boats seem harder to do than the mother ship and you killed it.
Good afternoon Jay. Thank you. This ships boat is quite large in comparison to my Victory boats so plenty detail can be added as I go.
I like the way you can overlay the pictures with words and arrows etc. Do you have to have a special program to do that? I wonder if you can do that on an iPad?
I do it on my iPhone. There is an edit tab above the photo and a whole load of functions are available

Good afternoon Tobias. When I remove the ribs on the inside this little boat is going to be worked very gently . :D .

Yes the Le Requin has them hanging from the side of the ship. Unfortunately there is no references of the Cazador and Peter and I just followed the kit instructions which show them on the deck. I preferred this as when I put the decoration on the side of the ship the oars will not cover these. I have seen some models of the Arabian Xebecs which show them on the deck as well however if this is historically correct I do not know. Cheers Grant

Good afternoon. World Cup rugby final a few hours away…The Springboks (South Africa) vs The All Blacks (New Zealand). I am so excited and having 20 hopeful mates around for a braai- going to be a biggie!

Ricochet Rabbit hard at work… Sorry guys I don’t show anything finished must drive you mad…..Speechless just bounce around all the time.

Worked on the Port Side anchors (same as SB earlier). WIPROTF and just placed in bow area.

Probably the first photos I’ve sent in daylight for a while (always play early in morning in the dark….I’m always in the dark with building shipsROTF). Definitely shows more detail and more of the finish I’m trying to achieve…..more oop’s as well;). Cheers Grant

Great job Grant.

Yup...you've got skills.
Great job Grant.
Good afternoon. Thank you Paul and Jay.
Congratulations on that 1 point win We are now all mourning, dressed in Black. :( - Enjoy the Braai and beer my neighbours are BeerBeerBeer. Also beautiful work on the model. Thumbsup
After that match you need some time to come back on the SoS Beer. But Congratulations with this win, Grant. It was nerve wracking.
And sorry for the loss for all the fans of the All Blacks.
Regards, Peter
That was a hectic final. A tale of 2 halves. Not spectacular open rugby (finals never are) more like a 30 man brawl. SA is celebrating. A very good thing for our troubled land. Another 1 point win (my shattered nerves ROTF) however it is enough for the “Boks” to become 4x World Champions and retain their title. Very chuffed.
Cheers Grant

What a great job on that boat. Also, those other close up photos are really showing off your impressive skills.

By the way, an excellent rugby win for SA. Scrappy but an exciting final. I hadn’t followed much rugby for a long time and the rules have changed so much over the decades. Since when did “ballet lifts” become part of the throw in line-ups? ROTF.

Second layer on ships boat done. Some final sanding, trimming and fitting of the stem to be done.

… and of course Grant chips a veneer plank….just wouldn’t be Grants Xebec if I did not :D

A little fix will have to happen.
Cheers Grant
I should have asked you to build me my dories; would have been a whole lot better looking than my attempts.
(And I would have taken that fix for Granted.)

Hi Grant, that is so nice and some pretty good photography to show it off.

After Springboks vs Other teams and then the final I was rather bruised and thats just from watching the games on TV. Very intense game. Time next door put out the Braai and stopped singing n drinking ;)Beer:)

Grant, i had to catch up a lot, but WOW man, what a beatiful work you are showing here.
Excellent work Grant. I love the ships boat and your fine rope work.

Rigging cannons, mmmmmm, painful but worth it in the end

Thank you Roger. This win means so much to us here that our President has declared 15th December a public holiday. I think it is nuts however I will have some more time to build my Xebec ;)

ROTFROTFROTFROTFYep a long time ago.

Hello Johan. Thanks however your dories are tiny and this is deceptive as it is a large boat. Big enough to actually do work on it so hopefully I can give it loads of detail.

Can you believe it our President has given us a public Holiday to celebrate our win …..more braai, singing and drinking will continue on 15 December ROTF.

Cheers Grant

Good morning.
Ships boat continued :
Some serious UGLY for a while. This is going to be a Grants boat as I really don’t like Occre interior. I was hoping to copy Peters masterpiece (@Ptèr ) (Le Requin) design however I am wood limited so no go. Let’s see…..

I found left over Victory walnut planks deep in my scrap tub (truly my last few pieces) which I cut to 2mm for fake ribs and 3mm for planking the “bulkheads” and transom.

Cut out the oversized frames.I painted the interior the red/brown of the ships bulwarks. Bent the ribs using boiling water and as they are only 1mm they bent easily.

Whew- to make this good is going to be a challenge- bear with me:p.
Cheers Grant
