Grants Xebec 1:60 (using Jabeque Cazador Occre1:60 kit) [COMPLETED BUILD]

Loving the color scheme Grant!
I really like the look of that longboat Grant and I agree with Paul about the colour scheme, it catches the eye.
I like your rigging work, looks real good.
Beautiful work Grant! ;)
Magnificent work/modelling. Gold Star
Hi Grant. As usual nothing short of perfection, it’s a pleasure seeing your work.
Very, very nice meneer, your longboat is going to be an attractive addition to your Xebec for sure Thumbsup
That longboat is out of this world, awesome. Thumbsup
Good afternoon Guys. Thank you for your comments. It is super encouraging for me.
Hi Grant, What do you use to stain the wood on the floor boards and benches of your longboat? I am testing out different stains for my Endurance deck but not come up with anything I am totally happy with. Thanks
Good afternoon Keith. I don’t stain the wood. I prep each piece of wood with 1000grit paper before building and then apply polyurethane. Just one coat. Cheers Grant

The longboat is looking better and better with all the added details, Grant. And I like your detailed details, like the hinges ……
Regards, Peter
Good afternoon Peter. Thank you. I enjoy really loading my ships boats with details- makes a fun addition to the model.
One has to wonder though what's behind those hinged lids... A few bottles of rum for the captain maybe?
Good afternoon Johan. Ha, the rum is in the large barrelsROTF. Maybe some biltong and droe wors behind the hinges;).
Cheers Grant

Hi Grant. I finally caught up with your chebec log. I have gone through it over the last week and must say I love what you have achieved. The wood / color combination is a lust for the eye.
The picture with all guns together with your boat on the perfect decking is one of my favorites.

My dearest Grant. Where do I even to start to comment on your progress.? First off, I just love the deck. When I visited SA in July it was obvious that your deck planking was really something special and that once the deck fittings had been completed, that deck would just ooze character. And, so it does. There is a warmth to the wood colors that makes the deck so inviting - something that would not have been possible if the deck fittings had not been carried out superbly. Finally, when your longboat - which in itself is out of the world - gets added to the equation, the complete (up to now) deck assembly just looks magnificent.

Then, the rigging. Looking at the HMS Victory, I knew that once you had sourced quality rope and blocks, your rigging would be next level. At this stage already, it is clear that that is no idle statement. In all, I am very excited about this build - because of the element of scratch-building that you have done, this build personifies character and individuality.

Good afternoon Herman. Thank you kindly. You visit to my Xebec is appreciated :D

Hi Grant, been a while since I've visited your build. Your level of work puts you into the category of seasoned builder highly skilled with an eye for detail and beauty.
One of your many standouts to me are the beauty and precision of your canon layout. Outstanding my friend!
Good afternoon Daniel. Thank you. You remind me of those hours and hours of making and rigging those cannonso_O. Slowly slowing I am starting to enjoy her look. Cheers Grant

Good afternoon Heinrich. What can I say….you went missing in action for a while and I “chatted” to Evert and he said you were A ok, and doing well which is good news. Thank you for your kind words - much appreciated. It’s been quite in my shipyard lately “Grants Xebec feeling neglected “….it has been hectic with the business ….Cheers Grant

Good afternoon. Shipyard time is still at a minimum….… :(

The main yard glued together and all strapped up - it is rather long :

I also made the longboats anchor. The kit did not come with an anchor but had this one. Rigged the cable.

Hi Grant. Even a little step is a step forward in the direction of a finished model.
These steps looks nice.
Luckily for us, we can see ‘some steps’ from you in the future.
Regards, Peter

Good afternoon

Eight oars for the port side of the longboat were made from dowels and scraps….it’s what I do ROTF . I strapped them with a 0.6mm rope. On the boat they look a little short?? I measured from a picture and individually placed seemed ok. I may redo these just for the visual effect. The tips are painted red/ brown not that you can see them and stained with oak….the used look was again attemptedCautious.

The Anchor is also placed in the boat.
