Grants Xebec 1:60 (using Jabeque Cazador Occre1:60 kit) [COMPLETED BUILD]

From where I'm standing, that doesn't look too bad at all. I really like the bench you made with the grog barrels. It's a nice addition. Remember that a lot will be covered with ropes and blocks and stuff, so these tiny things won't be noticeable at all when the ship is completed. Just keep going forward.
I had to redo al lot of work on the Foresail rigging part last weekend, so I know where you are.
 
This doesn't look that bad to make a redo. I think it could do you more harm than as it is now. Besides how many microns your "mistake" has. From what I can see on the picture it's something below 1mm. Somebody on SOS wrote paraphrasing :"Some mistakes only autor can see, others will only see sth beatifull that costed hard work. There're also some people who will see not only the mistakes you see, but also more. Stick with them, because they want to help you" I can add tho this:
Don't whip yourself(too much;)) and have fun it supposed to be hobby

My suggestion is buy yourself a better wood. I don't have a nice memories working with kit's walnut

Now to sand the shape as close as possible to the SB side without destroying my bowsprit and mast supports….going to be interesting :cool:. Johan my blunders are too many not to be revealed all over the internet….one just has to look at the logsROTF.

Good morning.Thank you. I agree with all you guys now. As above , I unfortunately already hacked and started the redo. I guess we never stop learning. I totally agree with you re the wood. On this kit the lime and Sapele was frustrating and the little walnut was African walnut which is difficult to finish off well. I used left over walnut from the Victory as well. Unfortunately to get any exotic wood here is just way too expensive. My next kit will have to be a high end one which comes with really good wood. Cheers Grant

I never would have thought you would take my first idea seriously and ripped apart her beautiful nose! :eek:
On the other hand, there's a spot in my BN's hull where I used putty to rectify a grave error. To this day I regret that decision...
As far as "blunders" go; we're building one offs, maybe with the benefit of earlier experience on other builds, but every single kit has its own pitfalls. Unfortunately we have to accept errors will be made. It's the way we deal with those errors how our build will surface; poor, adequate or stunning. Also, check the number of re-do's reported on this forum (and don't trust build logs without any)

True, true. If a builder isn't satisfied with his / her work do the redo! I've done multiple en lost count with my Xebec to be honest. However, you have to be careful not overdo things that's not going to be visible later on that takes a lot of time and effort to make with a high risk not getting it "right". This does funny things with your moral and motivation. All builders learn to accept all kinds of compromises during the build to get to the final / end result. In the end you have a one of a kind ship that really has your handwriting and character all over it. :p

Good morning Johan. This is sound advice - no doubt. Sometimes if something like this comes up I just have to sort it out. Luckily I am generally excited by worldly challenges so let’s hope I can fix rather than destroy this time around. Cheers Grant

Good morning Bill. Thank you. How the redo comes out will be interesting. There are so many supports, not to mention the foremast carling and the knighthead for the cat Davits all around there so I’m going to have my limited skills tested some. Cheers Grant
 
Good morning. Arlene, Ashtyn and I met the The Dutch ship master and his family last night. Unfortunately good old SA power cuts put an end to the braai at my place however we went to my favorite restaurant on the Melkbosstrand beachfront. A wonderful evening was had. Typical South Africans we forgot to take photos. Here is one of H and I by my Victory.
