HIGH HOPES, WILD MEN AND THE DEVIL’S JAW - Willem Barentsz Kolderstok 1:50

I work away on some home maintenance for a few days, revisit your log and see such rapid progress. She’s looking great Heinrich, there’s always so much to learn following your builds and posts.

It makes me want to move faster on my own build but I’m not sure I can pull off all-nighters like you though. I can hear my wife now, “I was sure I could hear constant sanding in the night Roger”ROTF.

Hello Roger. To me my progress feels slower than on the previous build, but I have to keep reminding myself that it took me four days to sand the box filler pieces below the waterline. :) The all-nighter is not something I ordinarily do, but when opportunity presents itself and the drive is there, I use my chances. I suppose that is one of the advantages of staying on my own - the rest of the time though, it is not to be recommended! ROTF

Hello Dear Friends

I have kept my head down this weekend and finally I have something to show you - the finished wales.

I have left the ends of the wales unfinished at the rear so that you can get an idea of the symmetry.

In total, 10 planks have been laid down. Bear in mind that the two walnut strakes which sandwich the oak plank in the middle gets doubled, i.e. 5 x planks per side.

In the process, a clamp was severely harmed.

At the bow, measurements were taken at 4 different points to ensure symmetry: the top and bottom of each wale.

At the stern the top and bottom of the complete wale was measured relative to the lower sill of the gunports.

And how level are the wales?

Heinrich, with your wales we can now start to see the "payoff" for all the hours you put in sanding and fairing your hull. Really looks great!

Ken
Thank you very much Ken. Thumbsup This part is absolutely crucial to the rest of the planking as every single plank is based upon those wales.

Check, check, double check! The alignment and flow and ‘swai’ looks very nice, Heinrich.
Regards, Peter
