Outstanding, you achieved your goal of a bulbous bow, and it looks wonderful. Question, if you were able to make the cap rail out of oak would you have?

Thank you very much for the positive comments, Daniel! On this build, no - the cap railing has to be the same wood shade as the fourth wale, Bear in mnind that the next plank to go on top of the cap railing is an oak plank again, so I had to maintain the contrast - without the walnut cap railing, it would have looked like an oversized oak strake.Outstanding, you achieved your goal of a bulbous bow, and it looks wonderful. Thank you very much, my friend. I am happy with how the hull shape came out. By the way, I find it almost impossible to get onto Modelbouwforum these days, so if I am quiet there, it is because I find it very difficult to access the site from China. This is an excellent result, you achieved my friend. this looks outstanding![]()

Hi Dom. The length of the hull only is approximately 15 inches. The side cutters you used for a weight made me do a double take. How long is the hull of the model? It looks very small.
Yes, she is small, Don. That is why planking her is quite the challenge - the pronounced sheer of the hull is compacted into a such a small size.Yikes, that's about half the size of my Discovery. Don't think my shakey old hands could handle stuff that snall. Good on ya![]()
As I used the 1mm x 3mm strip, Jan, the fit was seamless.Excellent, thank you. I was curious as to how the two pieces fit together.
Jan, it is so difficult. I have three interpretations to follow - Hoving, De Weerdt and Kolderstok. Factually, I still believe Ab's come the closest, but even then, his is only an interpretation - and Ab being the true realist - will be the first to tell you so. That is why I have decided to rely heavily on De Veer's original drawings. He may not always have had his facts straight, but his drawings were superb. And what those drawings do better than any plan is to give you a sense of PROPORTION.

This drawing of De Weerdt has always been my favorite one and with my build I am now trying to emulate this sense of proportion. I have maintained the sharp, upwards curve of the wales but at the same time I am trying to create that bulbous, stocky look that I like so much of this picture. That is the vision - only time will tell if i am going to be successful or not.
H, are you saying the 1mm x 3mm cap rail is one piece (per side) bent widthwise and no joints? As I used the 1mm x 3mm strip, Jan, the fit was seamless.
Correct Ron!H, are you saying the 1mm x 3mm cap rail is one piece (per side) bent widthwise and no joints?
Excellent Heinrich! This is the bulbous shape at the bow that I was trying to achieve

In order to keep it line with what is shown in the De Veer drawings.

Happy Days!
Thanks, Gtrant!Excellent Heinrich!
Sorry Sasha - I have no idea why you are "embarrassed" by this section you have indicated. Maybe you can explain.Heinrich, good afternoon.
This is the second time I've seen this photo and I'm embarrassed by this place. Seems like a failure here. Maybe the photo distorts, but it seems soView attachment 320524
The hull has two pronounced "cheeks" or hollows - these are areas that first bend inwards before bending outwards again. The first one that you will see at the bow (when I start planking that area) and the other one where you have indicated. Maybe that is what confused you.Heinrich, perhaps it seems so in the photo. But in these photos that you just posted, the case has a different slope and this place is already taken from a different angle.
