HIGH HOPES, WILD MEN AND THE DEVIL’S JAW - Willem Barentsz Kolderstok 1:50

I think your next step, the Garboard strake will be an oak versus you event. The bend from BH#9 to the stern is a tough one.
The garboard strake on the Port Side was as easy as pie. Here it is still partially wet clamped and pinned into position. I cannot tell you the difference that those filler blocks make - it is enormous!

Wowzers , that is great to see. All that sanding work is paying dividends.
Indeed, my friend. I was going to say that up to now, the filler blocks have not made things easier, they have made things possible. Without them, I doubt very much if one would have been able to plank this ship in oak AND get a satisfactory result. But, as far as this garboard strake went, it also made it really easy! :)

Hello Dear Friends

On July 14th, the first plank was laid down. Seventeen days later and the stern has been closed in on both sides. First, three conventional pics:

And then we got daring. Placed on the balcony railing of the 11th floor in the late afternoon light.

The balcony pics: you're just provoking Murphy...
Other than that, she's coming together rather nice.
By the way, what's the final verdict on the concave planks on the LH side, around frame 8?

Hello Johan. Thank you! As to the concave curve, it was common on sixteenth century and very early 17th Century Dutch ships.

The above picture illustrates that the concave curve is very mild on the WB. Compare it to the Geunieerde Provincien shown below.

I am all good! Thumbsup

I've seen the pictures of the Unified Provinces, but I remember, or want to remember, that it was only on the LH side you had this occurrence.

Very nice planking Heinrich, I wish I had those skills; planking is the one aspect (okay, there are many others too) of ship modelling that I can't master just yet. Your WB hull has progressed very well indeed, much as we all expected it to. Well done! Thumbsup
