Oh, I would NEVER question your intelligence! Though, perhaps, your judgement...Maybe some words that would illustrate the lack of intelligence on my part?![]()
Absolutely Fabulous.
Very true Paul, My judgement, or lack thereof, has often dropped me into the "you-know-what"!Oh, I would NEVER question your intelligence! Though, perhaps, your judgement...![]()
Thank you, my friend! It also serves as good motivation!Absolutely Fabulous.![]()
I think your next step, the Garboard strake will be an oak versus you event. The bend from BH#9 to the stern is a tough one.Thank you, my friend! It also serves as good motivation!![]()
Oh wow vary daring but it looks great in the daylight.Hello Dear Friends
On July 14th, the first plank was laid down. Seventeen days later and the stern has been closed in on both sides. First, three conventional pics:

And then we got daring. Placed on the balcony railing of the 11th floor in the late afternoon light.

The garboard strake on the Port Side was as easy as pie. Here it is still partially wet clamped and pinned into position. I cannot tell you the difference that those filler blocks make - it is enormous!I think your next step, the Garboard strake will be an oak versus you event. Thank you very much Richie! Those pics aren't the greatest as far as focus go, but I wasn't going to take my time there.Oh wow vary daring but it looks great in the daylight.
Wowzers , that is great to see. All that sanding work is paying dividends. The garboard strake on the Port Side was as easy as pie. Here it is still partially wet clamped and pinned into position. I cannot tell you the difference that those filler blocks make - it is enormous!

Indeed, my friend. I was going to say that up to now, the filler blocks have not made things easier, they have made things possible. Without them, I doubt very much if one would have been able to plank this ship in oak AND get a satisfactory result. But, as far as this garboard strake went, it also made it really easy!Wowzers , that is great to see. All that sanding work is paying dividends.
The balcony pics: you're just provoking Murphy...Hello Dear Friends

I was more thinking along the lines of "plain s....d."Some others words came to mind - daring was not among them...![]()
Hello Johan. Thank you! As to the concave curve, it was common on sixteenth century and very early 17th Century Dutch ships. The balcony pics: you're just provoking Murphy...
Other than that, she's coming together rather nice.
By the way, what's the final verdict on the concave planks on the LH side, around frame 8?
You can say "Stupid", Johan - it's quite OK!I was more thinking along the lines of "plain s....d."
I've seen the pictures of the Unified Provinces, but I remember, or want to remember, that it was only on the LH side you had this occurrence.Hello Johan. Thank you! As to the concave curve, it was common on sixteenth century and very early 17th Century Dutch ships.

The above picture illustrates that the concave curve is very mild on the WB. Compare it to the Geunieerde Provincien shown below.

One could als say you like living on the edge (of a balcony railing...).You can say "Stupid", Johan - it's quite OK!I t won't be the first, or I suppose, the last time, that I have been and will be called that!

Nope. As you can see on my hull (the first of the three pics), it is on both sides.I've seen the pictures of the Unified Provinces, but I remember, or want to remember, that it was only on the LH side you had this occurrence.
