My Dearest Friends

Thank you so much for your very kind birthday wishes - it is much appreciated! The older I get the more appreciative I am of all the thoughts - especially when I have not been active on the forum lately. It just underlines what a special group of friends we have on SOS.

You are all very cordially invited to join for me a slice of belated birthday cake!

Yum! Thanks!

Dear Friends

Please permit me a wry smile.

I was reading the following post by @richie incident "Cup of the Tsemes Bay 2025 (31.10-5.11.2025) Кубок Цемесской бухты 2025 (Novorossiysk)" when I spotted two builds of Willem Barentz's ship built according to the plans of Captain Naumenkov.

Both ships were - of course - called Mercury!

Heinrich, my friend,
Both ships were - of course - called Mercury!

It is all coming very close to your own research i believe.
They look beautifull.
Bye the way, a few moments ago, i saw that i missed your birthday, (by a good 5 weeks ) so a very belated birthday wish is in place. ( my apologies ).
The cake looked great.

Thank you very much for the birthday wishes my friend. It is no problem that it's slightly late; it's the thought that counts!

At the same time, Russian research on the ship of Barentsz continues unabated. This expedition has been listed as the most important/most prominent expeditionary discovery mission undertaken by the Russian Geographical Society.

What I find fascinating is the involvement of the Russian Ministry of Defense in the project.

A comprehensive expedition of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) to the Novaya Zemlya archipelago has returned to Murmansk. Its main find was fragments of the ship on which the polar explorer Willem Barents made his travels.

"Today, an expeditionary detachment of the complex expedition of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Russian Geographical Society to the Novaya Zemlya archipelago arrived in Murmansk on board the large sea dry cargo transport Yauza of the Northern Fleet," TASS quotes the press service of the Northern Fleet (Northern Fleet).

The expeditionary detachment included specialists from the Northern Fleet, the 12th Main Directorate of the Ministry of Defense (it is in charge of the Novaya Zemlya nuclear test site), representatives of the Russian Geographical Society, as well as scientists from several institutes and higher educational institutions.
