HMS Enterprise 1774 POF 1:48.

This is what I understood. My measurements are not accurate with the contract as this would not fit into this kit design.
I am curious to know the distance from the top of the deck planks to the bottom of the ports as well.
Also from the contract:
height of the upper side of the lower port sill from the upper side of the plank of the upper deck 1 ft 9 ins, (11.1mm at 1:48)

Thanks Grant :)

Hi Allan. It is 7.5mm. It just seemed low. The jig, which resembles a cannon and correlates with the cut outs from the kit plans would not fit at 11 mm as evidenced by the pics below. I have resigned myself to making this a cool model with as many improvements I can reasonably make- accurate to scale at my level of modelling would require a miracle . Once you add the decking (between the wheels/floor beams), it looks like your cannon cutouts will be fitting well, vertically in the gunports?

Is there a problem I am not seeing??
Good morning Brad. I think the problem is my own thinking :D. The measurements of the gun ports just seem out to me, but when I double check it to how the kit is designed it all fits well. Your assessment is spot on. Thanks Grant

Hello Brad. I did not insert black/brown paper or chalk the joints. I know a lot of guys like to really define the joints but I prefer the subtle approach (just my preference). I am very pleased with the outcome. Yep auto correct made me scrap the whole beakhead ROTFROTF.
Thank you for following my first POF which is a bit of a hit and miss……hopefully more hits.
Cheers Grant
Looking excellent so far Grant. This is going to be a beautiful model when finished

Your level is WAY up the chart Grant. Beautifully done. Hope you don't mind the questions :)

The idea of a jig fixture really is a good one.

Allan

Hey Grant,

and learned something again. You used the gun template well. I never had that idea. Until now. Thank you. I will of course make myself one when I build decks or want to position the guns on deck.
I'm sure your ship will be a beauty.

Best regards

Good morning Gunther. The gun template is a help to determine the height from the deck of the ports. It is clever from CAF.

RedfaceGood morning.

More gun ports…..hmmmmm:mad:. By far the least favorite thing so far. I know I’m a modeller with little fineness however I have broken almost every frame so far, and running repairs are continuous. I have also failed to get them 100% square/in line…..hmmm…

And now I cut my finger and am waiting at the hospital for a stitch or twoROTFROTF.

So I will send WIP pics of these torrid fellows while I wait for the doc.

... and that's why they painted the ports and bulwarks red! You're not supposed to notice the, um, fluid leakage, and just keep on goin'!

All the best in your recovery my friend!

A build with up’s and down’s, Grant. Wish you a quick recovery and hopefully you can do some building with your stitched finger.
Regards, Peter
