Good morning Gentlemen.

I decided it was time to re glue my stern timbers on for the third time:p. I absolutely know I will break them again so to strengthen them the windows and supports are to be done.

Whew this takes a long time………

I decided I am going to build this as per the kit with some of Grants creations.

Stern timbers with the inner window guides:

I added some walnut panels to the “guides” to keep the aesthetics of my cabin.

Windows. The kit windows are very cool boxwood. It takes a minute to cut these out and clean up. The inner side does chip so for my other windows I need to find another way of cutting these out.

The reverse side is just flat. I am having a very open upper deck so I added some frames on the reverse side for the glass to go in. In the pic below you can see the thin inner frames where they broke when cutting.I gave my first ultra thin glass cutting a go. Wasn’t tooooo bad.

Had to clean up the pillars- this was a mission. I think they are made from bone?

I stuck every thing on with prestick so excuse the alignment and prestick oozing out.

It is best to take all the kit pieces and check if I got my framing right, stern timber angles spot on, etc……..View attachment 574139

I was reasonably happy how the slid in nicely however there is plenty adjustments to do.

With little head scratching and some alignment work, I’m sure she will come out pretty good.

Will I ever show you guys a finished product….ROTFROTFROTF. Ricochet Rabbit is on fireExplosionExplosion.

Cheers Grant

Good morning Gentlemen.

Some more refinement.

The over hang by the top of the windows was too much. I wasn’t going to use the CNC cut and pretend planking from the kit and my 1mm planks I used where too thick.

Cut some 4mm planks from some veneer I bought for the base stand, stuck the old part in boiling water, ripped the old planks and redid with cherry veneer.

I also decided not to paint. I think the boxwood decorations and oiled cherry will look way better and fit my mostly wood build.

So much better! I actually didn't like that dyed finishing.

Looks fantastic Grant - well done !!!
Chris

She is turning out beautiful Grant. Not everyone will agree but in my opinion your decision not to paint is the right one. Let the different kinds of wood speak for themselves; maybe later add some bitumen to accentuate the decorations.
Thank you very much Herman. These windows are starting to come together….very slowly.:D

Chris
Good afternoon Chris. Thank you kindly.
Like Hermon said, not to paint would be my choice too. Another "Grant" masterpiece in the works!
Thank you kindly Daniel. I agree, the black just “boxed” everything in…..made the windows look square instead of angled so another redo was needed. My problem is I cannot imagine the finish until I do it…….and then…..$&@¥….redo timeROTF
Ah, that is a nice improvement, Grant. Well played.
Good afternoon Paul. Thank you it is much better…..it still requires some more work but for now I am “hopping “ off to work on my wales.ROTF

Good morning gentlemen. I found this cool little feature which enables you to do voice recognition replies to posts. It’s on my iPhone just below the keyboard there is a little microphone which you push. You can then talk and it types your reply. You have to be very careful though as my dicks ( should be decks ROTF ROTF ROTF ROTF ) and my F&$@% ing (should be Viking SpeechlessSpeechless) could cause plenty consternation for fellow murderers (should be modellers ROTFROTF). I used this for this post.
Cheers Grant
PS: I went back and did a bit of censoring.

Good afternoon everybody.
I Decided to do some work on the wales. From some research I have done the planking pattern for the wales differ to my original attempt. I am still gonna do the anchor stock planking however not all the whales will be done in this pattern. The smaller top wale, which should be black and I have left normal cherry wood, and the first main wale plank are regular straight strakes.

I have individually cut these out from a block of Cherrywood I bought.

Progress so far:

Some more outer planks to the bulkwarks was also done stained with Indian ink.

What I wouldn't give to have an open microphone feed from your workshop into my workshop. I'm confident it would provide hours and hours of entertainment :).

Nice planking with those joints, Grant. Every plank unique in shape.

Good morning Paul. You would most certainly be highly entertained with Grants comedy show. You would also have to have a “beep” function built in….…ROTF. I would be aghast, constantly finding out - OH …so that’s how you do it;)
Very nice planking, Grant. Weren't we just looking at the stern ROTF?
Thanks Paul. I am doing a better job the second time around however I am still not getting each plank cut perfectly. Bending, bevelling and shaping these little monsters to fit has been entertaining- microphone momentsROTF.
My wife and I have had some absolutely hilarious comments using the "talk to text" feature.
Good morning Jeff. Agreed this text to talk is very entertaining and dangerous at times.ROTF. I think it struggles with this South African accent.
The beauty continues !!!
Thank you Jeff. I am encouraged at present as I think after a lot of sanding and finishing I will get this looking rather good.
Looking fantastic Grant nice work
Good morning. Thank you kindly it is much appreciated. How is your stunning Le Requin coming on?
Tapered planking looks so cool. Great job Grant.
Good morning Daniel. Thank you very much. I think it will look cool when it’s done however these have been rather a challenge for me. Cutting large 1m x 20mm x 200mm pieces of wood into 4mmx9mm with a handheld jigsaw, a blade and circular sander was very entertaining to say the least. Many cringe moments. Definitely not something I would put on YouTube. ROTF.
Nice planking with those joints, Grant. Every plank unique in shape.

Thanks Peter and true story. A little too unique at times and thankfully my wales will be stained black so hopefully the “misfits” will not be visible. We will see.
Well done Grant
Beautiful work
Good morning Gilbert. Thank you kindly. Hopefully I will get to the beautiful stage at some point:D.
Cheers Grant
