HMS GRANADO 1:48 scale PoF CAF Model by Keith

Carrying on with the superstructure, the quarterdeck rail, hatch coaming and stairs down to the cabin area are now made up and fitted. Also the two masts together with the wedges are now in place. This is the first kit I have come across where the wedges are made of separate elements instead of one one round shaped piece fitted at the bottom of the mast. It adds a very good touch of realism to the model although I did find it a challenge to get the eight individual wedges shaped to fit in between the base of the masts and the upper deck. In the end I don't think they´ve turned out too bad. A nice feature by CAF Model. I have also sanded the bowsprit but not actually fitted it in place as l think at this stage it could actually get in the way and can be easily be knocked and damage the bow section. l have painted the quarterdeck rail black, as l plan to paint all the rails black. These, apart from the wales, will be the only parts painted on my model

Good afternoon Keith. Fabulous work…..as always. Cheers Grant

It's now time to start planking the outer hull and l am starting with the port side. The kit provides 1 mm thick laser cut pieces for this purpose (4 pieces per row) and they are all fitting very well so far. I intend to plank down to the bottom of the wales, which are prepared from 3 mm thick shaped pieces. I can see issues arising with bending these round the tight curve of the bow. The gun ports and sweep ports have been cut as l go along and l am very pleased with the result so far

Dear Keith. It is always a pleasure to see your work and the Granado is no exception to the rule. You are building a very beautiful ship!

Hi. A very happy new year to you all. This time last year I began this project and now exactly one year on, l would like to show my progress so far with these photos l took today. Completing, on both sides, the only outer hull planking that l intend to do, better reveals the ship's lines. Some cleaning up and wood finish is now necessary before moving on to the next stage of this build.

The catheads and top rails for the forecastle, main deck and quarterdeck are now in place and pained. This will be the only painted parts of the ship. just to add a little contrast and accentuate the lines of the hull from the top view. Just need to clean it up a bit then add the Clou to the hull planks which will also bring out the black a little more. The rails fitted pretty well with on need for any adjustment. A tribute to this great kit. There is still another part to be added to finish the quarterdeck top rail. which will be shown next time

Hi Cathber. If you Google ´´Admiralty Paints´´ you will get all the colours. I bought mine from Cornwell Model Boats in the UK. They stock all the colours and will deliver to to all EU countries as it is water based

Good morning Keith. Wonderful progress. I like the black contrast of those rails. Cheers Grant
