HMS GRANADO 1:48 scale PoF CAF Model by Keith

I have now managed to complete the stern section, inside and out, with the decorated gallery and windows. This was a job i was putting off for a long time as i will admit it scared me a bit. I made a bit of a dog's breakfast with the windows, but the rest, I think turned out OK. This has now closed off the hull, so next will be the 2 mortar assemblies

Sooo good! Congrats, it's a true masterpiece!

Hi all. I began work on the 2 mortars, 13 inch ad 10 inch howitzer. Sorry for the quality of the photos. These were taken over the course of a few days in the hope l could show the stages involved in the making of the housing, blackening of the metal parts and mounting of the mortar barrel. When l came to process the photos to include on my build log they were all completely out of focus due to a problem with the camera. l have put them all through Photoshop to try and sharpen the images as much as possible and hope they are presentable enough to be able to get an idea of the finished result of the 13 inch mortar

WIP with the main armament of the Granado, the 13'' Mortar ans 10'' Howitzer. So far the mortar is now in place and the housing around it has been constructed. A template is provided to help with making the octagon shaped side panels, very difficult it would have been without it. Each of the 8 walls have sanding marks lasered on at the corners which have to be shaped to get the correct angles for the joints. The mortar is shown in it's travelling position, with the inner panels removed, ready to fire (once turned 90 degrees, or the mast will be no more). I may show the howitzer with hatch covers in place, have'nt decided yet

I see the "sanding lines" on a previous post. Did you sand the mating angle or set up a jig to saw that mating surface?

Either way, you results look great!

Good morning Keith. Wonderful progress. Cheers Grant

Hi Brad. Thank you for your comment. I carefully sanded the corners with my hand held spindle sander

The 10 inch howitzer with it's housing is now also complete and fitted. I had also hoped to show one of the 2 covers over the top of the howitzer housing but, even with the gun barrel fully horizontal, it would fit over the top with the gun in place. So that's it as far as the heavy armament is concerned. The 10 defensive 4 pounder guns and the swivel guns will be constructed and added later
