HMS Victory by Y.T.- Mamoli - 1:90 scale

Probably such book with complete Victory rigging sketches would be published one day. But it’s unlikely. I don’t feel that amount of people interested in this subject is increasing.

Thanks Green Highlander. I only describe my personal experience with the book. Book is good, no doubt. Especially when there is no better description of hms Victory existing. Issue is the rigging of bowsprit, jib boom and flying jib boom is EXTREMELY complex. It is very hard to explain it with words. It would be much simpler to understand if one hand sketch was drawn instead of a thousand words.
Hei Y.T
I'll send you the link and there you have a lot of drawings and explanation about rigging.

Hi, Green Highlander. Thank you so much for the link. I, however, think those drawings are basic. After constantly reading four books (actually 5) on rigging of Victory and other contemporary ships of sail, I think I am much more advanced with understanding of rigging. I do not just stretch a line on my model because some kit manufacturer tells me so. I go through my reading material to understand what is the meaning and a purpose of each rope or line. Thanks again for trying to take care of my lamentations about scarcity of good information for rigging of ships of that time.

Look what a beautiful vintage drafting set I got from eBay. It cost me miserable 70 Canadian dollars with shipping. This is like $50 US. It’s Complete and in almost unused condition. It’s made circa 1945. People at the time were proud of the tools they made. I will use the ruling pens for drafting seams on my silkspan sails.

Oh no, Y.T.! How disappointing!
No. dockattner. Enough of silkspan for now. This stuff is too fragile. It is also not repairable. When it is broken, this is it. Nothing can be done. I am not comfortable with this idea. Thinking of making another 34 sails from silkspan for my Victory gives me creeps. A sudden move of my hand and sail is gone? No. I will try working with fabric again based on my experiences with silkspan.

Here came the disaster. By pure accident the frame with one ready complete silkspan sail fell on the floor. It was about two meters height. Well. The whole thing had broken apart. There is no way to have it repaired.

"O" dear, Y.T.
Some lessons in model making are a lot harder than other's and this one looks pretty hard, it's good to hear you seem to be positive about the way forward.

Cheers,
Stephen.
