HMS Victory Occre 225 - build log

Hi Crypton,
Are the battens as shown in the kit instructions? According to The Masting and Rigging of English Ships of War, page 2, there were 8 for each mast and they reached from the hounds to a point 3/5 of the way to the cap. They went over the iron bands on the mast head. The breadth of each batten was 1/8 of the given diameter of the mast.

Yes, I’m following the instructions in this case.

It has been a few weeks since my last update on the Victory, and progress has been a bit slow. Mainly I have been working on the main mast, which is more or less a repeat of the front mast. I decided to fix these two masts in position first, before closing the top deck, and making it easy to fit it tightly around the masts. One side of the deck will be fully closed. I'll aim to show next week on how it has turned out.

This week, I have finished the deck. I've kept one side open as much as possible and completely closed other side. Currently, I'm populating the deck with all kind stuff, including the cannons. I've improvised the rigging of the cannons to the best I can giving the scale.

I have improvised the rigging of the 2 cannons at the front. It does not make sense technically, but I try to make it 'balanced in scale'. Also, I added some props at the front, and made the top deck at the back. Finally, I'm preparing the constructions of lanterns using a thicker wire as indicated in the manual. Next week a new update, I'm really enjoying the progress.

Stunning. Well done.

Hey Crypton,

You've been really hard-working and have built the Victory really nicely so far. Great, great result.

I'm still excited to see your progress... Thumbsup

Thank you all for your kind comments. This will be the last update of 2025. I'm still adding stuff on the deck and I will continue to do so at the start of next year. It's been a nice endeavour so far, and I'll miss working on it during my X-mass escape to warmer regions the coming weeks. :)
