IJN AKAGI 1/350 by Hasegawa [COMPLETED BUILD]

IJN Akagi is complete and I want to thank everyone who took the journey with me.
This has been a long journey taking almost 7 months with many ups and some downs. My modeling skills have made drastic improvements since the start back in July and that I will take to the next model. Looking back upon the model the hardest part was using photo etch from three suppliers. My lack of discipline was exposed when using three sets of photo etch. If ever again using multiple sets of photo etch I must ensure what parts from each set to use and what parts won't be used. Another thing about me was I looked at all the logs and youtube videos without realizing that I never had attempted anything a complex as Hasegawa Akagi. just thinking I can do this.
So now the final version of my IJN Akagi

Hey Will,
Thanks for taking us on the journey with you. The ship looks fantastic and is a testament to your time and hard work. Congratulations on getting her across the finish line.
Cheers, Steve

I agree, working between all the different sets of Etch instructions AND those for the basic plastic model are confusing and very time consuming. There is a lot to be said for using a complete aftermarket upgrade kit, e.g, Flyhawk,Pontos or Tetra. Their instructions are perhaps very cramped but you are only looking at two lots of instructions. I count seven sets for this if you use all Hasegawa"s etch and wood deck plus the Eduard Set and that's without the planes....

Kind Regards

Nigel
Every photo etch………ouch.

I have built 350 scale models in the past. The Battleships New Jersey, Missouri, Bismark, Yamato, Musashi, and The Hood. But Aircraft carriers are much harder. I bought The Akagi 3 months ago and have assembled a decent amount, but no one has mentioned that some of the instructions are not that clear. For example the beams that hold up the front and rear decks just show line pointing to the underside of the deck. But they do not pinpoint exactly where to glue it. Is it just me or do others have this problem.

Wow, excellent video of the Akagi. It was a beautiful aircraft carrier. I guess I can view the videos of assembling the 350-scale model and closely view the part where they placed the beams to hold up the front and rear decks.

I found what I had to work with in building my Akagi. That said let me try to explain how the process unfolded.
The SSMODEL pe kit contains 13 sheets of pe. Now no instruction or numbers on the pe. Like you I was lost of ahow to proceed. Luckily I found another builder who had the Hasegawa Super Set and was willing to make a set of pdf's of his build. The pdf's were created from the original instructions BUT he could only make "A" (8 1/2" by 11") sheets. I taped them together the best I could.

Notice how the groups relate to a sheet of SS pe

Hope these make since. A note of how I read the images is first compare the SS pe to the Heswagwa plans and notice that the pe flows in order of the joined photo.
One last thing that REALLY helped was to follow the assembly order that the below youtube describes
