Japanese temple: Byodoin Hououdo Foenix Hall (Kyoto) (Woody Joe)

Hello all,

Apart from applying gold paint on both Phoenix-birds on the roof, the build of the Byodoin-temple is FINISHED. There are no Japanese parts left in the box, everything is used. Here are some pictures...

Now that the building activities are finished, the Buddha with its base and lighting can be put in its final position and the terrain with the Japanese lantern can be added. I don't think I have enough space in my living room to add the pond in front of the temple, so I think I'll only make a sandy bottom.

to be continued...

Magnificent build. Thank you for sharing. You have opened new doors for budding modelers like me to take on other platforms. Your techniques and craftsmanship will serve to pave the way for us. Congratulations on the completion of your project.

Glad i stumbled across this build log. Just ordered the kit last week. Thanks Gijsbert!
a warm welcome here on board of our forum.
Maybe you will also make a building log of this new project?

Gijsbert, I don't know how to thank you enough for your post on Biodoin Hououdo Phoenix Hall of Woody Joe!.. Nor for the invaluable tips and clever techniques you created to build this fantastic model. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the courage I lacked before.

Being a ship modeler I recently completed my Amati HMS Fly 1:64 after eight and a half years of work and was looking around for something new and unknown of high quality. So I stumbled upon the Woody Joe models on Internet and fell in love with them instantly. I was clearly aware that this was a completely unknown field for me in which I had no experience at all, not to mention the instructions in Japanese, so I was definitely afraid...
Having exactly Phoenix Hall as my final goal, I decided to start with something smaller and simpler in order to learn this new and unknown technique, so at the beginning of the week I ordered the Konuzan Toshogu Shrine model and I am waiting for its delivery.
In the meantime, I stumbled across your post and after hours of research and reading, I gained the confidence and courage that I would be able to cope by following your advice and shared experiences.

All compliments from the participants in this Forum for your post are more than well deserved, and I am in awe of what you have achieved and especially your way of achieving something so perfect. Thank you once again for the courage you gave me and for the generosity with which you share your knowledge and experience.

Best regards and good luck,

TLC
