La Belle 1684 - Caf Model 1:48 by Gennaro [COMPLETED BUILD]

Although, kit provided laser cut parts for gun carriages, I decided to make them from scratch, since that took less time than removing char from teeny tiny pieces.
CAF provided lovely bronze cast gun barrels, including king's monogram - thank you CAF. Thanks for your interest and likes.

Hi Gennaro!

The gun barrels look very good. I have not found them at CAF and still the smooth tubes. I have seen your tubes before in a Russian build report and wondered where they came from. Do you even have the swivel guns maybe? There are some from other manufacturers but way too big. I have already set to make them myself.

CAF did not supply swivel guns. I guess the difference is in kit versions. Mine is 2.0 with boxwood carvings and cast gun barrels, although boxwood is used for figurehead only. Thanks for your interest.

I certainly hope so. I just stumbled upon swivel guns https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-48-swive...-model-fittings-2-pieces-packet-/254329893944 Unfortunately, they are too big 36mm vs 24mm for La Belle. They look exactly as per Boudriot plans. Seller is jiangxuezuimei from Crown ship models (that's where I got my kit) and, I believe, she is a SOS member. It would be great if they could be manufactured for La Belle.

Accurately made, Gennaro. Thumbsup I love the contrast between the black wale and the rest planking. Do you plan bolt\treenail imitation?;)

I have to say, it did cross my mind more than once to add bolts, at least on wales. Tedious, repetitive work and tiny bolts/rivets are holding me back. The cup-burr thing is out of question - wouldn't be able to do that with consistent, acceptable results in million years! Same thing with heated syringe for trunnels. Many thanks for your interest.

I respect your decision no matter what you will make. Actually, making bolts with a bur, it just a matter of touching the wire until the top is half -round. As simple as this... you can try it, you will be surprised with the result ;)

I fully understand your words and decisions - sometimes too much is making it worse......
 
Good evening fellow modellers! Entry into the not-so-great-cabin has been completed. Difficult task to say the least. Inspired by Thomas' work I intended to make working door hinges and window mullions - they both failed miserably. So, I got non-working door and window is from the kit, laser cut, painted white. Steps were not too difficult to manufacture, but installation was a bit tricky. Bottom and top ones were glued to boards and then installed. The other two were installed on the model using a simple acrylic spacer:

Trim around the window now looks a bit out scale. Oh, dear! Need some break from tiny work. Few planks on the quarter deck is next. Many thanks for stopping by, all the likes and comments. Much appreciated as always.

It is looking great. I am always jealous of those who can build and glue something so clean and perfect. All my ships have their share of mistakes and imperfections. I applaud you !!!!!

I have a question.

With your skills and knowing that you have the Proxxon Milling tool, why you didn't mill that window ? (The white section). It is just curiosity because what you have done looks great.
