L'Artésien 1764 - 64 Kanonen-Schiff in 1:48 nach Plänen von Jacques Fichant

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for your likes and kind words. I'm very happy that you like my work. Many thanks to Karl! After finishing the Fly, I remodeled the room, about 15 square meters, exactly how I've always wanted it :) I continued transferring the waterline plan. The frames were also transferred to it, the sheer board was cut out, and everything was aligned. This (hopefully) provides a good foundation for setting the frames.

Very nice workshop, beautiful board. Keep in mind that your frames are still slightly oversized, so either lower your board a little or sand it down by 1 millimeter.

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for your Kind words and interest!;)

The construction of the frames is progressing well.

I have a quick question for everyone. It concerns the infill pieces between the frames that have a drainage groove. These positions aren't marked on the plans. However, I assume the A'rtésien also had them. Is there a specific arrangement or position for these drainage grooves?

Andreas,

The plans for La Salamandre by Boudroit showed their location. I don't know if there is a formula or accepted practice for their location.

On Salamandre, they seemed to follow somewhat the turn of the bilges (this may just be coincidence)?

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it. According to this, the A'rtésien doesn't have any drainage grooves if none are marked. Mecanizados, who posted this on the forum, included two rows of these grooves on his A'rtésien. Perhaps he followed the instructions in Boudriot's 74 series.

Good morning Andreas,

Here's a link to Gerard's build; he used two rows:

Daniel Forlani seems to be following the thrusts; perhaps that's a small clue.

Gerard also follows this pattern of frame joints; I just looked at some pictures of Le Rochefort again, and it's the same there. So I think it's a good starting point.

Hello everyone!

Thanks again for your help. As already clarified in the other forum, this information about the filler blocks can be found in volume 74 by J. Boudriot. I apparently overlooked it. Here's the relevant paragraph anyway for clarification.

New Updates:
Final push with the frame construction. Numbers 46-58 are finished. Only 4 more to go.

Hello everyone!

The last four frames have now been completed. The wedges between the keel and counter keel were milled and installed one after the other. Additionally, the filler pieces were inserted approximately at the end of the bottom timber and in the middle of both the bottom timber and the keel. This layout is also found in Gerard's A'rtésien. Thanks again for your help with this.
The individual filler pieces between the frames were installed as shown in the plan, and additional ones were placed above each frame for reinforcement.

Since the spacing between the frames is only 2mm, I deliberately omitted showing the bolts. Please forgive me :)

Looks terrific Andreas - the spacing between frames is so much narrower than La Renommee which is 4.5 mm. Makes sense as she was a sturdy 64 gun ship compared to a lightly armed fast frigate.

Congrats on completing a the milestone of installing all of the frames ! I am enjoying following along,
Chris

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for your interest and the kind words, Chris! The sternboard has been removed for now, and the A'rtésien has been re-anchored. The stern section has been further completed. The already finished cleats have also been attached to the bow, which cost me a lot of patience and required further adjustments. Since the already installed rand is giving me some headaches, I'd like to leave it as is for now, and the ship will be completely sanded.
More on that in the next update!
