Le Coureur 1776 - French Lugger 1:48 - CAF by Alex

Today I finished (well, almost) my Caldercraft HMS Snake 1:64 that was on the building dock for years...This allowed my ongoing build of HMS Enterprise to move to a different location in my shop. It still needs a lot of work, but all structural work is done. The shop is now re-configured to start Le Coureur. Keel first, then frames, then build-jig. View attachment 207578View attachment 207582
Hallo @Alex R
we wish you all the BEST and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Birthday-Cake
How is your project going? Did you make any progress?

Thank you all for the Birthday wishes!!! It is hard to believe I'm 70 !! I'm very lucky to be strong, healthy and to still have curiosity..
I have done some work on Enterprise and also on Le Coureur, mostly cannon and deck furniture. Right now, I am at my summer home in Utah, where I don't have a wood model shop, but I'll continue to work on the projects above when I return in September. I just finished reading "The Wager" - A tale of shipwreck, mutiny, and Murder- by David Grann....An incredible true story. I highly recommend this book.. I will also get started on HMS Granado in September. IUwe's build is fantastic. I will use it ask my principal guide.
I hope everybody stays cool and hydrated this summer.

Alex R

Thanks Tobias
Both Coureur and Alert don't have the level of detail and expertise that your build does. I am eager to finish both of them soon-next 2-3 months- so I can start on my next project, either HMS Granado, or the upcoming Dockyard 1:48 HMS Enterprise with full interior structure. Whichever comes next, I will try very hard to super-detail it. The knowledge I've gained from the members at SOS is invaluable. I am still a rank amateur, but a lot better than when I started out in 2019.
Best

Hello Alex,
I hope that in twenty years I will be as fit as you are today at 70. Your work is absolutely beautiful and remarkable.

I am real lucky and enjoy retirement a lot. I was a Neuroanesthesiologist at a big Academic center with super high stress on a daily basis- it was either retire or die of a stress related injury, so I retired 5 yrs ago. Best thing I ever did.
Cycling and skiing are my sport passions. Reading, Astronomy, shipbuilding, my crazy Boxer dog, Porsche cars, and Travel are my hobbies. We have a second home in Park City, Utah (I'm going there tomorrow to ski with grand children) We also go to Park City from late May to early September to escape the Texas summer heat, cycle and hike. While in Park City, I do mostly cycling and hiking and build Legos, or Pocher cars, etc. In the fall we Travel-I usually do a bike trip every year and then tour (usually Europe). This August I'm doing my yearly bicycle trip in Europe across the French Alps, Switzerland and Austria, with a cycling group. I now have an E-assist road bike, so I can keep up-but it is still hard.
The last picture is Cape Horn taken from the Drake strait at the tip of South America January '24.
No wonder I can never finish anything !!

YES ! Awesome car,. Manual ? I think my favorite Porsche was a 2017 Boxter Spyder Manual, silver, red interior...Sold it...still grieving...
Manual. This naturally aspirated boxer 6 will be the end of the run for internal combustion Caymans - going electric sometime in 2025 (already true for the European market). I was in the cue for nearly a year waiting for a GTS allocation. I live about two hours from Road America, but I need to run this car in first... so maybe next summer. I've been racing up there for a few decades in a hobby league (no race passing - only wave throughs). I also cried a bit when I sold my 2006 Cayman S, but this car cured that. What an incredible machine (rev-matches all by itself in sport and race modes). And the sound :).

My apologies for the diversion from your wonderful build report. But you said one of my favorite words...

We have a Taycan 4S, which drives like a dream, and a 2015 Macan Turbo, which is truly a superb car, but I really miss my Spyder... When the Admiral allows me, I would like to get either (low miles) a Cayman GTS like yours or a Boxter Spyder, manual.
