LE ROCHEFORT - Harbour yacht from 1787 1:36 by Tobias (Monograph by ANCRE)

Hi everyone,

let's continue. Well, what can I say? This whole thing is pretty boring for you. I don't want to show you every single row; that wouldn't make sense. But I've already built myself some longer parallel clamps—larger ones, longer ones, and smaller ones. This way, I can now reach the planks more easily for tightening.View attachment 570800

There’s nothing boring from you Tobias, they look great.

Those clamps are a work of art in themselves.

A perfect example of the beauty in "Form follows Function".

Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Brad, they work quite well.

Thanks Roger, it's nice that you see it that way, though some others might already feel the same. I'm struggling with the planking.

Perfection is never boring :).
Thanks Paul, whether everything is perfect remains to be seen. I still have this work ahead of me at La Palme and can learn from one or two mistakes.

A nice bunch of cleaver clamps, Tobias.

Hello friends,
I finally did it! The hull is closed, the last plank is in place. Please don't look too closely; I had to improvise a bit, so it's no longer original. Oh well, it's closed, and I'm happy, but by no means satisfied.

Next up are about 2,500 holes to drill, nails to drive in, and some fine-tuning. Then the damage inside needs to be repaired; I'll probably have to rebuild the cabin and the beams.

Good morning Tobias. I love the way you get the wood finish so beautiful. I try scraping gentle sanding and never get there. Kudos. Cheers Grant

Good evening everyone.

@dockattner , @Steef66 , @BradNSW , @Peter Voogt , @shota70 und @GrantTyler , Thank you for your kind words.

Half the holes are drilled, now the battery needs to recharge. In the meantime, I've started inserting the square nails and tree pegs alternately into the holes. Then I smoothed them with a file and then with sandpaper (180 and 240 grit). Finally, I polished them with steel wool, blew off the excess, and yeah, you can't see much.

Of course, I made the square wire myself again.
I had to do a few more rows. The same process as before, but this time with the bale matting. Yes, I'm satisfied.

Wonderful execution and inspiring!!

Since "Imitation is the Sincerest form of Flattery", you should feel flattered! :D

I will attempt this French technique on "Le Salamadre" of the same time era:
1. Alternating metal and wood fasteners below the wales.
2. Metal fasteners on the wales.
3. Wood treenails above the wales.

The effect is stunning, especially after you applied water or oil!!!

Thanks for sharing such wonderful work!!! It inspires us mere mortals!
