I’m thinking stain the grate.

Take your time. Wales will be held at this place. A platform with bars will go just under it. The barkhout itself runs along the deck decking line with its upper edge in front of the tank bulkhead.

The instructions say to add the grate before the wales. If that’s true, there’s not enough room for the wales (barkhout) to be added later. Could I just stop the wales at the toilet? If not I’ll just have to trim the grate frame like crazy.

Hi Vic, looking nice. on mine, I have left the grate clear color.
You need also to keep in mind that you'll have to adjust the width ( or remove) the center one in order to allow for the rope that goes from the bowsprit down to the hull

, according to Andrey @Mr.Deep, the wale below the second gun deck will run up here. Apparently, the grate frame will snug up to the bottom of the wales instead of the seats of ease. I’m glad we have this forum. Instructions don’t always instruct. I may add the one set of wales next to see how it goes.

I'm glad you mentioned that "wale". I was getting ready to bring it up. I also glued my center grating.....always got to think ahead. That can be relieved easy enough.

Thanks. That’s what it looks like on yours. It’s kind of hard to see it in the instructions, and they seem to show the grate going on before the wales. But that doesn’t make sense. How did you route the gammoning ropes through the grate? Do you have a picture?
