Le Soleil Royal ZHL Build Log [COMPLETED BUILD]

Some of the internal structures interfered with the dummy guns’ insertion, so I had to drill out behind the holes of the boxes that support the guns. Two of the boxes have broken off or split in two. Not sure how I’m going to get guns in place now. I’m tempted to just close the gun port lids on those two. image.jpg

Hi Vic
I believe this happened to me as well
What I did is to glue on the bulkhead adjacent to the broken box a small piece of wood with a hole in it in which I inserted the cannon

Like Gilbert said, there may be a way to glue pieces of wood to form a structure to hold the cannon barrel in place. Closing one of the lids will look out of place, unless several of them are closed. You will have to work with small pieces of wood through the open gun port using tweezers to tweak them into position, Make sure that the glue is dry before attempting to insert the barrel or you will hear the *Crunch* of failure.

On my last model, I forgot to install the two stern-most cannon carriages on the bridge deck before covering over that gun deck with a deck above it. I was disappointed to see two empty gun ports which were no longer internally accessible. I took 4mm x 10mm sticks of wood and inserted a few of them into the gun port with glue on them, and glued them in a stack three pieces high until they formed a block almost as high as the bottom of the gun port. It let those dry, then took a cannon barrel and use epoxy to glue a strip to the rear half of the barrel. The barrel and strip were just narrow enough to slide into the gun port, and that was glued to the stack of wood strips beneath it. Below is the result. The visible wood actually looks like part of a cannon carriage, so it actually turned out to be an improvement over just sticking a half-barrel into a piece of backing wood.

Ersatz installation of gun barrel on port side bridge deck, before wreath decoration was applied.

you can try to make new frames.Measure the diagonal distance of the port.I drew what it is B.Measure the distance A.the size of B should be larger than the size of A. Experimentally achieve the size of the width of the new frame. In other words, insert the frame diagonally. Then you turn to the horizon. If it rests sideways from the inside against the walls of the port, then everything is fine.I just advise you to drill a hole right away and insert the barrel of the gun on the glue.I hope my thought is clear.Sorry for the quality of the drawing I drew in Paint.if the distance along the horizon is not enough, then you can paste the frames vertically.

I had one of my boxes break the same way while I was drilling out the hole in the box what i did was make a new box remove all of the broken box from the gun port drilled a hole in the new box and installed a small screw in the box next to the hole so I could hold the new box in position while the glue set worked great! then remove the screw when dry.

The spare box wouldn’t fit in the port so I had to use a single piece of wood with a hole in it. Fortunately, I had a false deck in there to hold it up. I put the gun into the hole and glued the board to the false deck. Not sure how it will hold up. Hopefully nothing will ever touch it. Thanks for sharing.

You can't beat working with wood when it comes to models a person can fix anything!!

I’m just wondering if the hot dogs helped locate the cannons? ;)
