NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

Wow, what a great project Dean. It must have been great to have a swimmingpool in your own backyard. Love the glassbeats into the plaster. Tiles are lovely as well.
Texas summers can be long and warm so to cool down and refresh yourself into that pool must have been a bless...Great for your grandkids as well.

Thank you! I have never owned a pool before because I didn’t want the maintenance and the extra expense. But grandchildren have away of pushing you out of your comfort zone! :p
But I will enjoy it too! I plan to start swimming laps every evening. At 60, my knee’s won’t tolerate running, my butt won’t tolerate riding a bike…so…looks like swimming is going to be the exercise that is easiest on my back and joints! ;)

Here's how you know when its time to spend some time in the shop....
Hi Phil,
I have an uncle who lives in Boise Idhao. Beautiful country up there!
In summer we did white water rafting and fly fishing, in the winter was skiing, snowmobiles and snow tubing! I love it up there!
However we ended up in the mountains after dark one year and it got down to -14F and I literally had ice hanging from my mustached and beard! Didn't care for that! ;)

Wait till you're in your 70s!

Quick update…pool is full and pumps circulating and filtering the water. I am getting the water chemistry adjusted and stabilized. Meanwhile I continue to scrub the walls to get the plaster dust off. Within a week or two I should have clear water. Soon I will get some hobby time back! ;)

Do you have a pool sweep?
I have a robot pool cleaner...

But I still scrub the plaster by hand right now because it is curing for the first 28 days.
The cleaner scrubs and vacuums. You can actually see it in the pool picture, it is on the steps cleaning. :)
It cleans the bottom and the walls and will scrub the water line as well. When done, hit return mode and it will climb up the wall so you can just grab the lift handle and it then empties all the water out and you put it back in its caddy. The filter is under the clear lid, easy to get to and easy to see when it needs to be cleaned. Cool stuff!

Having a pool is like having a lifetime job.
I used to always say, the best pool is someone else's...lol :p
But nowadays with the automation systems and variable speed pumps, you can program everything to run itself on a schedule. I can schedule when the pumps run and at what gpm flow rate, according to my desired turnover rate of the pool (2-1/2 times a day). With an autofill and over flow drain, I never touch the water either. I have the main pump, waterfall pump, heater/chiller unit, sanitation unit (AOP), and all lights on automation schedules. I can use the app on my phone to control anything without having to go to the equipment. I also have the robot pool cleaner. So once I get the water chemistry stable and where it needs to be, it is just minor maintenance, like emptying skimmer baskets, cleaning cartridge filter, adding any chemicals needed. That would be once a week, except cartridge filter which will be about once every 6 months, because I have an extra large 720 cu ft area filter! ;)
It even has an auto "freeze mode", so if temps get down to freezing it automatically turns on the pumps to keep the water moving, and will even turn on the heater if needed.
In conclusion, older pools were a lot of work, but nowadays with modern technology they are far less work. So I can spend more time swimming and less time doing maintenance! ;)

Well, we had 20 degree weather a few weeks back, but the pool had no water yet! But freezing water busts pipes and cracks pumps and other equipemnt...so no ice skating rink option, unless I put in a pond. ;)
I know, Dean. And the ice floor will also create a huge amount of pressure on your walls. So, keep the water ‘liqiud’ and enjoy!
Regards, Peter
