NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

Where do you find bloodwood, the forests of Mordor?
I used to make chess boards and I used it for the darker pieces. I bought it from Woodcrafters many years ago. I used to get Bloodwood, Oak, Maple, Zebrawood, etc to make boards. No exotic travel required! ROTF However you can go to Brazil to get some if you like to travel. ;)IMG_0264.jpeg

Today I went to Daniel’s house and we cut Pearwood and Bloodwood into 5mm board widths to be used on ship models.
I looked at his models in his work room, the Wright aircraft, B-17, P-51D and his ship models. And I saw his Wasa on display in his front room. Beautiful ship and excellent rope work. His current build is looking good as well.
We enjoyed visiting, talking shop and getting boards cut. I got some Decal paper from him and I gave him a P-51D Mustang model in 1/48 scale.

This is us in his garage after cutting some wood.
Here is some of the boards we cut…

Pearwood up top and bloodwood below that. I also have some miscellaneous pieces and larger pieces for carvings.
In conclusion it was nice to visit with Daniel and get some wood cut to be used in the future. I will definitely be using some for the railings of the NL.
We had a great time today cutting wood strips, discussing modeling techniques. Dean gave me some of the bloodwood strips from our last get-together which I plan on incorporating into my Zebec. Thanks again Dean!

It’s always nice to meet a fellow SoS-member and share the pictures, Dean and Daniel. Thanks for sharing!

As some of you may know, I have been distracted with building airplane models for my military aircraft collection that spans from WW1 to present.
But I have started work on the upper rear galley decorations.

This file (above) from the museum archives is very crude and not too useful as an actual template.

So I have started to design what I will make using the reference as a guide only.
IMG_2139.jpeg
Above is what I have so far.

This is the area where it will be added…

The big blank area at the top will have a carving added. So I am making some progress on that with the initial design started. ;)
The rest of the time I can be found here... https://shipsofscale.com/sosforums/threads/my-1-72-scale-aircraft.17224/ ...working on aircraft models.

That's some really beautiful carving. This is art not modeling

Welcome back to ship modeling, mio amigo ;)
Thanks Jim, I have to find a balance! ;)
Stunning model
Thank you!

Agreed, carving is art, even on a model!
I would love to have had a chance to meet both of you in person. You have both contributed so .much to my.abilities.
Wow...thanks Ted, that is very kind of you. I am always open to meeting fellow modelers.

Last night I resumed printing cannon carriages on my resin printer. I printed 12 and I had 1 I already printed and painted as a test. So I have 13 of 20 and will print another 7. Then I can paint all of them.

I still need to finish the stern, but the cannons need to be done eventually, so I might as well get started! ;)
Good morning Dean. It is such a pleasure to see your NL being worked on again. You did a fine job printing those cannon. Resin prints, done properly, always give such fine detail. Nice. Cheers Grant

Thanks Grant!
Resin is definitely the way to go for detail. It is amazing what detail you can achieve at scale.
