Oh wow Kirill4, that is so much information many thanks for making this available, it will take some time to go through it but looks incredible although I wasn't able to open galleon 2.1.
I am fascinated with sailing ships at the moment in particular the period from the 1500 to 1800's before they added steam engines.
I recently finished reading Batavia by Peter Fitzsimons and really enjoyed it, it gave a good insight on ship life around the period, thankfully most didn't end the same way and for better or worse is a relatively unknown part of Australian history.



I look forward to reading through these new resources as I get the chance.

Have also recently watched the excellent Hornblower series and currently started watching Black Sails.
Master and Commander on DVD with it's magnificent sound track is always great viewing, with the volume turned up on my surround sound system and big subwoofer the opening canon fire sequence really rattles the windows, wonder what the neighbours think.

I have no sailing experience but recently brought a ticket to sail on this early 1800's replica schooner which is basically the same as my first model, certainly takes great team work in sync to make it perform, can only wonder on the skill to sail the big ships like they used too.
I took quite a few pictures for reference, attached are a few of them.

Yes it was an enjoyable experience, one thing that struck me was the poor visibility, if you are at the stern steering you cannot see what is in front hence the need to have spotters strategically placed the ship to guide the way.

Ok fair point.
I had the Revenge kit for quite a while before starting the build, it was only after I started building it I was given the book due to my general interest in sailing ships and it was only after reading the book myself I learnt about the Batavia story, perhaps one for the future.

Planking completed and looks reasonable so work continues.

I layed some planks on the insides to hide some previous misdemeanor then stained it.


Only to realise I needed to add a filler piece on top of each side to compensate a bit for my previous errors which then needed some sanding.


Another little mistake , I didn't correctly identify the difference between 2x2mm African Walnut and Sapelli and the location to place them hence some are in the wrong place, some of the African Walnut is to be left as natural wood and all the Sapelli is to be painted.
I built the rear stern walk first using African Walnut which should have been Sapelli and only realised when I started getting low on the African Walnut, my workaround is to use African Walnut on the gun ports on the top decks and Sapelli on all the lower deck gun ports, so now it will look like it was supposed to be that way and only you and I will know.


At least the top view shows it is starting to look like a ship.
Masking tape over the holes to keep things falling inside.

Good progress on your Revenge the planking came up well it's taking shape nicely.

Continuing the deck rails I found the most difficult part was bending the African Walnut in to right angle curves, however the top part on the stern in the previous post turned out ok as it wasn't too tight and also part D40 isn't too sharp either.




I tried soaking, heating & steaming the pieces but they kept splitting, the techniques are valid but clearly I couldn't quite get it right this time.
I did try gluing the split part but wasn't really successful either, it was too difficult to hold everything in place while the glue dried.




Next technique I tried was to glue some small pieces in a layer and sand them to shape, this worked better for me, ok it's not perfect but better than spit pieces.



Fitted in place with a bit more finishing to be done I think it will be ok, they also have another part fitted on top of the curves and then they will be painted.

Interesting to me it looks like several models may have been used in the photographs, one example is this photo on the same sheet the lower part is white and the inset photo is stained wood, I am going with the stained option, it would be quite difficult to change with all the railings already in place.

Yes the admiral was aghast when I said most of the wood would be painted or covered up, one of the reasons I chose this build was to get experience in painting as my first build had no painting so I wanted to head down that track, from what I can tell the ships of the time were quite colorful and decorative.

I was going to paint my model but changed my mind when I saw how good the wood looked, decided I would only paint if I had something to cover up.

Railings completed and some wood filler is added where the curved rail pieces joined the flat rails.
Have also assembled the gratings and just placed them on the deck for now to get an idea how it would look, I get so engrossed in the build and sometimes forget to take pictures of what I am doing.

Of course not up to the standard of many master modellers on this forum but I am actually quite pleased on the overall look of it.
I feel like this is a build I need to go through on my modelling journey, with my first model taking 25 year to complete, except for the first and last year it sat in a cupboard as I was so frustrated with my poor starting efforts.
My idea was to see if I was just a one hit wonder or could I actually complete another build and not have it take another 25 years, as chances are I wouldn't see it completed, so far so good.

Thank you, yes it's a hold your breath moment as the whole character of the model is about to change.

The painting begins, the top half will be covered up so has only been roughed in rather than the cleaner lines on the lower hull, also attached the rudder, they are tricky things to do.
