Pocher 1:8 scale Porsche 917K

Ok, done with one side! Wow! 12 plug wires and I still have 12 more to go! On an eight cylinder, I would have finished 4 plug wires earlier. On a normal 12 cylinder, I would be done. But this monster is only half finished! ROTF
As far as the weave goes on the wires, I coated them with clear polyurethane and then painted them to help fill in some of the weave and tone it down. I think it’s an improvement, but it will never truly be to scale…it would have to be far too fine of a thread and weave.
Here is what I have…

I always place the upper fan shroud and velocity stacks on temporarily to ensure it clears that mass of wires. ;)

For me they look great (small), Dean. A nice solution, thanks to the Admiral.:)

Thank you Peter! The provided tubing would have made it look fake, or like a toy.
That looks great Dean. Must have been a challenge to get the timing just right on that monster!
Thanks Daniel! Yes, I can imagine with two distributors and 24 plug wires it would have been a challenge! ;)

I started the plug wires on the second side. There is a little more to work around, but doable. This has to fit around the injection unit, throttle linkage and still stay out of the way of the velocity stacks and fan shroud.

I have 6 wires, half done. Once completed I can do final paint and clear coat.
Also I chose to make some foam blocks to keep the motor off the headers as they were getting the paint knocked off…

Next the motor will be mounted into the tubular chassis, and the motor will no longer sit on the headers. And cross bracing will be added along with the coils. Then later the upper piece (fan shroud, velocity stacks, injectors) will go on, and that sits just above one of the cross braces. That will make routing the fuel injection tubing very difficult as I have to work inside and around the chassis and all the plug wires and other obstacles. Not looking forward to that!
I started some preliminary fitment of the chassis…I will get into that once the plugs wires are finished.
Here is a sneak preview…

Back to plug wires…
