Santa Maria 1:48 - Ships of Pavel Nikitin by Pathfinder65

Still working away on planking as time permits.

The Port side is about 90% complete and I've started the Starboard side.

So far I've not experienced the plank length problems noted in other Santa Maria build logs. I think Pavel has fixed that.

A quick post, it's a busy time here with graduations, doctor appointments and out door work.

I'm trying to solve a puzzle: The Crows nest:

I posted earlier the three parts in my kit to form the top of the crows nest are not identical.
I made a copy of one of the "good pieces" and pasted that on the reverse side of the "bad piece"

All three pieces dry fitted to make sure I had it right.

Now I have to imagineer how to "scribe/indent/carve out" the four missing indentations.

I spent the last couple of days removing the last six planks placed and refitting them because I wasn't happy with the way they lay.
Jan, I know that feeling only too well, but it's always worth it. The planking looks beautiful!

Progress or Not, Maybe, a major "Re-Do".

I spent the last couple of days removing the last six planks placed and refitting them because I wasn't happy with the way they lay.

Some more innovative clamping.

Two more planks and the hull is closed in.

Good morning Jan. From what I see the redo was well worth it. The planking looks fabulous. Kudos. Cheers Grant

:oops::oops: I have a minor problem :oops::oops:

I've got the same error on both the Port and Starboard side. I stopped my planking progress on the Port side because I thought I had missed placing a plank. I guess I'm consistent because I have the same error on the Starboard side.

At first glance the planking looks just fine

But, there is a bit of a gap almost the width of the last plank I placed.

These are screen shots of Pavels build sequence and everything is nice and flush.

Yup, it's "imagineering" time.

:oops::oops: Minor Problem #2 :oops::oops:

While I'm pondering problem #1 I managed to find another. I watched Pavel's video on cutting in the gunports and managed to get those right. I then moved on to the Hawser ports. Looked up the video, watched the process, found the parts and then :oops:.

There are two pieces in the kit that cover the bulkhead at the stem.

There is quite a gap. Fortunately this portion will not be to visible once the upper deck and the windlass etc. are added.

I'm just gonna keep on putzing along.

Hmmm. There are thirteen planks in Pavel's version and only twelve planks on yours. And he is behind a beam - are you in front of that same beam? Of course, you are both just about the same distance from the hole in the deck...so that seems good. Again...hmmm...
