Sharing my build of the Cazador and San Fillipe

Thank you for the advise on doing the pully blocks before doing anymore rigging. Even with the few lines I have completed already and can see there being a problem ahead in pinning the yards and pully blocks. I shall do these next before doing any further rigging. Kevin
 
I agree with Pat. The main thing here on SOS is to "enjoy" your hobby. I wish that I could build the perfect ship, but I make many mistakes and problems. Kits do not always supply the best info on rigging. I am glad that you chose SOS to display your work. Very nice workmanship !!!

I built the Santisima Trinidad from OcCre, and all of the Belaying pinouts were wrong. I had to do a lot of research to figure out the pattern of how things work. I am not against OcCre, maybe something in the translation - I am not sure. All I know is that the "belaying pin PLAN" was quite backwards as they had lines from the way AFT of the ship tieing to the fore yards and I knew that it could not be possible. I figured out that the Belaying pins tie off points were in direct relationship physically with each MAST. Each Mast section has its own belaying pin section if you will think of it this way.

Back to building again..had a break as felt it was needed. Refreshed and ready to go. Currently completing the spars now with blocks and rigging. Thank you all for your comments of support. I agree, this is about enjoyment and that is why I felt a break was needed. I am enjoying this build but the rigging is certainly a challenge. Needed the break to look at this afresh. I will post further photos as I progress. Kev
 
for me the rigging is the climatic end to a build, I love rigging. I first started off looking for the most complicated, confusing, mind twisting mess of wood bits and thread I could find. the more thread I saw the better. yeah I'm one twisted old man I know, but I'm happiest in a build doing that rigging.
 
Fore mast now complete (I hope). Will check everything again later once all masts rigged. Definitely a good idea (as Paul suggested) to do the outer rigging once spars are in place and inner rigging completed. Much easier to rig that way. It s a deviation from the plans but well worth it. Just made sure I have marked on the plans the completed lines to save any confusion at a later stage (Hate to rig it twice).

nice work, looking great. It is the fiddliest rigging I have ever done. I think the fact its all running and all to the edge of the hull that makes it a challenge. Square rigs are more complex, but a lot easier to do.

A great job and a ship to be proud of.
 
Lovely build! I have the same kit stored away as I continue work on my Dos Amigos (also an OcCre kit). First build for me but it is moving along as well. What did you think of the OcCre instructions? I felt lost until I found this site, actually found the photos in the kit to be rather useless regarding HOW to build (and too much black areas that were impossible to see what was going on with rigging, etc). But you obviously succeeded: I am motivated!
 
I too found the OcCre instructions confusing at times. I did struggle with the rigging diagram but following Pauls build on this site helped enormously. Often visited the photos of Pauls build to help and guide. This then gave me a pointer to work from the rigging diagram. I did run out of natural thread during the rigging process. I contacted OcCre and they sent two reels free of charge .Cannot ask more than that from customer service. They also sent a name plate for the Cazador with my name printed underneath to signify who built the model. I have not used it as the model comes with its own name plate as you see in the photos above. However thought it was a nice touch by OcCre support staff.
