Soleil Royal - ZHL 1/90 Scale by Paulb [COMPLETED BUILD]

The masts are now wrapped and the lower sections assembled. I decided I wanted to put the mast wraps under the braces so I drilled .7 mm holes at the appropriate spots and finished cutting the notches with a #11 xacto blade. I think it was worth the effort. The bow sprit is also fully assembled. I’ve airbrushed the top areas flat black. They are all just dry-fitted to the hull here.

This is getting really fun as everything is coming together.

Hello, Paul. It looks very nice. Some things are confusing. Check the angle of the bowsprit. And the man should support crumbly. And it seems that the regels go up too much. Show the drawing of the side view.

Thanks for your comments. I did try to set my bow sprit as you show, but just couldn't get it to fit right. It did't look right. The plans show a bow sprit angle of 28 degrees from the horizontal - that's what mine is set at. It may not touch the bow stem, but it's at the right angle which I thought to be more important. And yes I know the gammoning is slanted backward and that’s ok as I can’t find any reference saying it must be vertical. In fact I’ve found images showing it slanted backwards. IMG_1227.jpg

I"m getting ready to start the same as yors.. in reference to the rigging ,, have you considereed.. rope walk,,, seizings and servings... are yu willing to go that extreme

I have a serving and rope walk machines from Domanoff. I use the serving maching a lot. I just don't get along well with the rope walk, I don't know why. I've tried many variations of thread and setups and have had some success. I've purchased a lot of rope, blocks, cannon barrels and carriages from Syren for this build. I will seize the ropes properly where I can. Following BigMikes's build I am serving the stays where they rub against the masts and all of the forward shrouds where the sails will rub. I have a lot of assorted threads - I call it my thread farm (see pic). The tread that came with my Heller (Imai) 1/100 HMS Victory is quite good. It was supplied by Imai and is very nice quality. I also have a little of the cuttyhunk fishing line I used in the 70's and 80's on my Model Shipways Rattlesnake and a lot I've collected over the years.IMG_1235.jpg

Thanks for all of the encouraging comments. I've planted the lower mast sections and finished all of the lower shrouds. I do enjoy the rigging portion of the build, but I'm concerned about the rigging belaying locations in the instructions as they don't address rigging with sails. As I plan to add sails I will have to look into this.
