Two months ago I started building my first boat "The Norske Love". Probably too ambitious! In the basement of my house I set up a working environment to build the boat.

Then I installed all the ribs.

I saw the decoration in the next photo in a post from another built Norske Love in the forum. Hopefully I was allowed to use it.

In the previous post of my Norske Love I was able to show 25 photos, therefore this sequel. Is this the right way to show the further progress of the construction? I don't know how to use the forum properly yet!!!

What scares me most is the hull planking for my first boat. I hope I started on the right foot and I can finish it on the right foot. I have done a lot of research and read a lot of tips and information on the internet and on this forum. Constructive criticism is always welcome if I do something wrong because I can use your experience!!

This is the place in the construction of my Norske Love so far!
I think the place in the planking where I am now is the most difficult. I'm having trouble continuing to make turns this way.
Good advice is welcome
Thanks for following these posts!!

Nope :). Go back to your original post and on the bottom of the page you can add your next entry with your new photos.

@Jimsky - once he does that you might want to delete the additional thread...

Wow! You are doing beautiful work on a beautiful ship! I also like your work area! I have something similar, but it seems to always be cluttered no matter how many times I clean it. Your work is great!

Thank you for your kind words. I have the same problem as you, I clean up my workplace a little every day otherwise it gets too cluttered. I set up the basement of my house specifically to build the boat. It's going perfectly now, but it will be cold in the winter! Every day I try to glue up to two planks on the boat, I don't want to do my first boat too quickly and thoughtlessly, but I want to do it as best as possible.

Hi Noël, very good start and I definitively push the button for follow your work. First ship and a single planking for the Hull if I remember. It is a great challenge and you doing well.
Thank you for your message and for continuing to follow my work! I hope I can finish the hull in the same way, I'll take my time because it is indeed a challenge, especially since it's the first time I'm doing this!

I had the idea to provide my boat with lighting. That's why I just ran the wires in the hull up to the point where the LED lights will be installed. I have provided a total of 10 LED lights! Now I can further plank the hull. I don't know yet whether the lighting will all work, but then the wires are certainly already in the hull! I want to lay the wires so that they are not visible anywhere!:)

You are making such a wonderful clean job of this build. I will follow with great interest. That is such an interesting and effective idea to make trompe l’oeil decorations from thin card. As you’ve done, you can create interesting depth and shading with art pencils and paint markers.

I am very impressed for a variety of reasons. First, for your first attempt at model ship building your work is very good. It's clean! Second I very much like your workspace. Third I notices you're using an iron for heating and shaping the planks. If you're married did you get permission from your spouse to use that iron?
The Norske Love was my third build. I started it in 1973. I went to school in Japan for a year and then life took me in a different direction and I didn't work on the ship for almost 5 years. I start working on it again in 1978 only to have the ship irreparably damage in an earthquake during which it fell off my workbench onto the concrete floor of my garage.
I am pleased for you and your efforts. I will follow your build with great interest. l suspect that the quality of the materials and instructions is far better that what I worked with 50 years ago.
All the best!

Thanks for your response!! On my honeymoon in France 41 years ago I had already bought the Norske Lova from Billing boats. I then had the ribs and first deck assembled! Then I also stopped for various reasons. In 2017 I had a cerebral infarction and could no longer see. After 4 months I started seeing again and after 8 months I had my full vision back (the doctors said I would remain blind forever). My neurologist told me to train my eyes and brain to make little things! At that moment I started making miniature houses in wood. Then a nativity scene and a mini gazebo! Then I wanted to start again on the Norske Love, but the wood could no longer be worked after 41 years and fell apart. I bought a new kit now laser cut and started again 2 months ago. The iron is a mini iron for 20 euros and not my wife's ;)!! The quality now is indeed much better than then! I'm now adding a few pictures of the things I made. The boat is my first boat! If anyone is interested in building the nativity scene or the gazebo, please let me know and I can deliver the entire construction by foto! What two other boats have you already made?

and now back to boats!

Good morning Noel
There are several thoughts I have regarding your message. First I am very happy for you that you regained your sight. And I am impressed with you carpentry skills to build the miniatures you posted. You are indeed skilled. Based on the quality and attention to detail in your miniatures I am sure that your completed Norske Love will be outstanding. Who did the crochet? And congratulations on 41 years of marriage!
My other two builds are a carved hull US Constitution and the Lilla Dan. The Consitution has long since been lost during to moves from Southern California to Northern California to North Carolina and to Texas. The Lilla Dan I still have but it's in disrepair waiting for me to make right. The hull and the deck are finished but the yards need rework/replacement and the rigging needs to be done. That's a project for later.
Best regards.
Craig

The dolls were made by my mother, she is no longer with us due to covid! She was very happy with the wooden miniatures, which gave her dolls a different dimension!
I looked on the internet at your 2 built ships. Very nice, hopefully things will turn out well with the second boat in the future!
I am now at a difficult point with the construction of the Norske Love. In a new message in my build log I will ask for general advice on how best to proceed with the planking of the hull. See photos

Is there anyone who can give me advice on how I should finish the planking of my Norske Love? Should I work from top to bottom until the planking is finished or should I work from bottom to top from now on until the planking is completely finished? In the photos you can see where I have now arrived! Other advice is always welcome! I may have probable made a mistake so far because it's starting to get difficult! 20240825_114225.jpg20240825_114239.jpg20240825_114247.jpg20240825_114308.jpg20240825_114339.jpg20240825_114349.jpg20240825_114429.jpg20240825_114447.jpg
